I have been a licensed user of Xplorer² Pro v1813 for several years, and it is in use on the computer (Dell Latitude C840 laptop) on which I am writing this message.
In November 2012 I purchased two licenses for Xplorer² Pro v2202. I have used one of these licenses to install Xplorer² v2202 on my wife's computer. I intend to use the other license on a new-to-me computer (Dell Latitude E6500 laptop), which eventually (as I get time) will be set up to replace my C840. Meanwhile the C840 is my main computer.
As I gradually set up the E6500, an early action will be to install Xplorer² Pro v2202 on it. And there will be occasions when I am moving stuff from my C840 to the E6500 (they will be networked), so in a sense I will be using the C840 and the E6500 simultaneously. (My wife won't be using either the C840 or the E6500 unless her computer has a problem and she needs to access her Gmail.)
So I think that on my C840 I CANNOT legitimately replace Xplorer² Pro v1813 with Xplorer² Pro v2202, even though I will be the only person using both computers (the C840 and the E6500).
Is my understanding correct?
If my understanding is wrong, and I CAN legitimately use my second license to install Xplorer² Pro v2202 not only on the E6500 but also on the C840, do I need to first uninstall v1813? I checked the Xplorer²(v2.1.0.1-1) User Manual's installation section (pages 25-26), and did not find any statement about when (if ever) one can install v22.x on top of v18.x.
I don't have to have v2202 on my C840, but it would be nice to get used to it starting now.
Thanks for any comments, suggestions, or help.

The apparently relevant v2202 license clause is the following:
"LICENSE GRANT. . . . If you have purchased a Single User License, you may install and use one copy of the Software EITHER on any computer you have exclusive access to, OR to a single computer accessible by many users. The Software is in "use" on a computer when it has been loaded into temporary memory (i.e. RAM) or installed into permanent memory (e.g. hard disk or other storage device) of that computer. For multi-user multi-computer use you must purchase a Multiple User License that enables you to install and use the Software on the number of computers authorized at the time of purchase."

Xplorer² License Clarification
Please excuse my tardy reply. Christmas and New Years intervened!nikos wrote:if you are a paid customer you don't have to worry too much
I am not doing any complex checking, the licensing terms are enforced as gentlemen's agreement
If you bought a license then you can install it as much as you like. Just add licenses for extra users
Thank you for your clarification about licenses. Now I can relax about having enough licenses. My wife and I constitute two people, and we have two v2.2.0.2 licenses, so all is well, even if I put v2.2.0.2 onto a total of three computers (one being my wife's, the other two mine).
But I still don't know about the mechanics of replacing version 1.8.1.3 by 2.2.0.2. Can 2.2.0.2 be installed "on top of" 1.8.1.3, or should I uninstall 1.8.1.3 before installing 2.2.0.2? I don't mind uninstalling first, but if it isn't necessary or if if the 2.2.0.2 installation file routinely uninstalls an older version before installing 2.2.0.2, I might as well save some time. (For example, for several years new Mozilla-SeaMonkey versions have been automatically uninstalling their predecessor before installing the new version, and other Mozilla software probably does likewise.)
I checked the Xplorer²(v2.1.0.1-1) User Manual's installation section (pages 25-26), and did not find any statement about when (if ever) one can install a newer version on top of an older version.
Thanks for the help.

The likelihood of encountering a difficulty using either method is rather small - there's no rule about it, and most people just install over the top. While the 2.0.0.0 licenses do represent a shift in how the licenses themselves are handled, if you are concerned about any problems just backup your settings using Actions -> Export Settings first, uninstall, then install the new one.
Just remember that if you need to use the settings file (the .reg), x2 must not be running when you click it, so you should use explorer for that. If you do uninstall, remember to put the most recent PDF manual back into the installation folder so it's conveniently available via <F1>.
(If you browse into the installation folder itself, you'd see that there are really only 2 files which could be considered significant [the rest is fluff], and how much trouble can you get into allowing 2 files to be overwritten? It's rather like remembering to always hold the blade with your bare hands when starting a chainsaw - it's the only way to really get a "feel" for how such machines really work.
)
[Disclaimer - don't try that last part - unless you consider 10 fingers as being 8 too many to have in the first place, or you wish to turn your 5-year-old son into an outdoorsman who doesn't quite understand yet that daddies are actually made out of sticky-red-stuff - which, whilst painful for you, is a lesson he'll carry-on long after you've been turned into a free-baby-sitting service. And if you've ever seen someone change nappies with missing fingers, it's akin to watching a truck-driver roll a cigarette with one hand - quite impressive. But I digress...]

Uninstall Xplorer² 1.x before Installing Xplorer² 2.x?
Kilmatead:
I have saved your thoughts (down to but not past the word "fluff"). Being risk averse, I will backup my settings, uninstall v1.8.1.3, and then install 2.0.2.2. And if I use the settings (.reg) file, I will be in Windows Explorer rather than in Xplorer². And I will put the latest PDF manual file into the Xplorer² installation folder.
Thanks very much for those reminders.
