and in my real lifeNaturally xplorer² isn't doing string comparisons all the time, never mind half a million of them in a row, so here's another instance of striving for excellence, saving the last drop of CPU power, which turns out to be not really important, as we have seen time and again in this blog series...

Unsurprisingly, low-level API functions are more efficient than abstractions.

I also find it interesting that the first method worsens on 64 bit architecture while the second method improves.

that is probably within the limit of clock accuracy, probably it's the same in both 32/64 bits
