Re: Migrating xplorer2 to a new OS install

it's best to export/import to REG format (not INI). If you are installing in your own computer it's best to use the registry see here for more information www.zabkat.com/blog/13Apr08.htm some of your settings that include paths (bookmarks etc) will be ported but unless the paths remain the same, the...

Re: xplorer² macros

this macro can compare e.g. 2 PDF files as text. Select the 2 PDFs and run the macro. It goes to extract the PLAIN text and compares the TXT files. The technique also works for other documents that support extraction through text filters, e.g. DOC and XLS make sure you select the 2 PDFs, and copy/pa...

What if you select a random fol...

Re: fast search by filename using only MFT?

did you try the deskrule catalog searching? www.zabkat.com/deskrule/catalog-offline-search.htm if you don't go for cataloguing preview and extended attributes, building the catalog (and searching) should be quite fast. I will see if it can be extended for all these mountable files, it's not a bad id...

Re: Reading subfolders... (ESC to abort)

there are older versions available here: www.zabkat.com/alldown.htm although I doubt that I added anything for v4.1 to affect this you can also try this tool while xplorer2 is stuck, it's quite easy with version 4.x (just run another x2 while the first is stuck) www.zabkat.com/blog/procdump-debug-hu...

Re: user-created custom columns?

the column to use for this kind of thing is COMMENT [S] that can be added to all files. It takes text information, but if you want to have it paired keywords or whatever, it's up to you. The programmable column can also run external programs as explained here: www.zabkat.com/blog/find-blurred-pictur...

what's special about this bookmark folder? Check its location, or what kind of file details you request to be shown. For more information see

Re: fast search by filename using only MFT?

you must compare like for like. If you turn on windows indexing for your folders, then deskrule will be much faster. In the end of the day, if you only search for filename, you cannot beat "everything". If you want other type of searches, and especially so for text content, you will find deskrule mu...

Re: fast search by filename using only MFT?

if you are running elevated as full administrator, and you search in a local folder (or my computer) and your search criterion is just a filename, then it should check the MFT. Look out for a message "searching MFT" on the statusbar

the SORT BY menu cannot be used to sort by any non-standard column, but you can just click on the column header. Also, once you set the sort mode, it stays put, so you only have to click once
