You might try software for sending WM_COMMAND messages or keystrokes to the application.

My computer crashed, and upon restarting and using xplorer2 again I see that all my bookmarks are gone.  I'm thinking it only saves them on a normal program exit, not right away when made?! FWIW, I have it set to single, not dual, pane.

But, now that I think about it, clicking on the tree will change directories in the primary pane.  That is not ambiguous.
