Re: build 5001 released

Understood. Still, you are definitely having an issue, and I suspect it is something to do with that exact laptop, whether it be OEM drivers, OEM software, or something else.

Re: build 5001 released

OK, so none of the OEM specific applications installed that might cause issues. How about drivers, any OEM specific drivers that you (or Windows) might have installed? Are both machines using mechanical HDDs, or SSDs, for install, and are they SATA II or II, or (if SSDs), M.2 or even NVMe? Could ver...

Re: build 5001 released

Also, were the machines installed with the same options when installing Windows? As in the same telemetry options, enabling . disabling Cortana, etc., basically all the stuff that you do after installation but before use?

Re: build 5001 released

Yeah, I just realized - I couldn't find them in the available section because they were already on my toolbar, just farther down to the right, and I didn't notice it. So I assumed they were custom buttons. Sorry about that. I'd try uninstalling it on the machine it's eating resources, and then reboo...

Re: Any chance for silent install options

FWIW, I *do* make use of Macrium. But those only work when you want to revert to what you have - not when you need to upgrade. When Windows changes (like it is about to do again with 21H1 release imminent), then you have to take the update and make a new set of backups - and after updating in-place ...

Re: build 5001 released

Holy moly! I have my personal profile, with 8 tabs on the left and 6 on the right, and it's only using 26.6 MB. The usual suspects - scanning with multiple antivirus scanners to verify it isn't using anything in the background - I see that 0.1 MB/s of HDD usage, too. Also, those are a lot of icons o...

Re: Go to parent from user documents not working as expected

Which build / version of Windows 10? (in the run box, type 'winver' (sans quotation marks) and a popup will tell you exactly what version you're on) ANd I just tried it and it is doing exactly what it should. The path is directly to your special folder called "My Documents" which is also directly a...

Re: Inconsistent context menu theme between different systems

Yeah. Could be different hardware, could be something else, who knows?

Re: blog: large folder speed

It is either this, or that your AntiVirus program has started scanning files in the background and takes a few moments to stop scanning so the files are once again available to X².

There are, of course, *other* possibilities, but these are the two most common.

Re: Inconsistent context menu theme between different systems

I get a slightly darker gray on X² when using dark mode, but it is certainly not following (in terms of using the same colors) the actual dark mode. IOW, my panes are black or a very dark gray (when highlighted) but the context menu is much, much brighter, using a light- medium gray. When I turn off...

Re: build 5001 released

There are a couple of options that might make a difference, but I worded the name of it incorrectly. The one I was referring to is named "Don't use windows thumbnail cache", but I also found "No background thumbnail extraction" and even "Logging control" section - all of these are in Global tab. Nik...

Re: Inconsistent context menu theme between different systems

Actually, I never realized I could get a dark context menu - I've been using the Windows dark them *and* Xplorer² dark mode, but my context menus were always light in color. Since they were not glaringly white, but more gray-ish, I didn't really complain. But seeing how you have a dark context menu,...

Re: blog: large folder speed

SSD for Windows and classical hard drive for the personnals datas Windows has a few features to help limit power consumption and these are enabled by default, but you can edit them to your liking at any time. Doing so may alleviate the massive wait time you sometimes experience, but: I would recomm...
