okay, this seems to be working.  thanks, Nikos.  it's always great to get support direct from the source!

when I say custom groups, I mean I have the same set of groups for all folders.  I want all folders to show their files in the same groups - folders, executables, documents, pictures, etc.  but groups are turning off entirely as I move between folders.

sorry about all these gripers Nikos - I've had nothing but good support the few times I've had questions about x2.  I recently paid to upgrade to 2.0, and it was as simple as I could have wanted.  hopefully you'll get some windsurfing in soon.

I find this pretty annoying :|  I wish there was an option to disable it.  I find it a little presumptuous for x2 to assume I want to follow every folder search with a local search.

Nikos - very cool.  I wrote a really simple RLE compressor, since what I needed to compress had lots of single-character runs, but this could be very useful for some real compression.  thanks!

Any machine on our corporate network that I access via UNC, e.g. \\machinename.  I can also type my own computer name in the address bar e.g. \\mypc and get the same result - group mode turns off.

Hmm, that's odd... because you can turn on group mode while looking at a network share, and it works fine.  Well thanks for the effort.

@snakebite: that looks like a feature of the Windows 7 list view control - be very very difficult to replicate on any other OS!

Thanks for the hints.  Things don't seem to be working for me as they are for you though. I don't want to have to save a desktop.ini in every folder in order to use group view.  I don't use specific settings for any folders; I want them all to look the same.  I'd never even used Actions | Folder set...

I love using custom groups, and I group files based on type.  I want the same grouping for every folder.  But as I navigate between folders, opening tabs, etc., folders keep reverting to not using custom groups - they all just use the default group - and I have to hit Ctrl-Alt-G, Enter to turn group...
