what you describe is the designed behaviour of xplorer2 and I don't know how else to describe it to you. When you save a particular folder e.g. for thumbnails, when you go up to the root folder or any other non-special folder, you have to switch back to detailed view manually, but you only do this ...

XPlorer2 may use the last view I set up, but it does not use the customization tht I set up.  In other words, if I go into the colum set up and tell it not to display file attributes in the "Detailed View" (I mistakenly said List View earlier), then it only does that in that current folde...

you've touched upon everyone+dog there but coming to the original subject of view modes, if you read again that article more closely you'll see how things work here: * don't use Actions > Folder settings > Save except for the rare folders you want to view differently * for all other folders xplorer...

Defining Column Layouts

I went into a pane and set it for "Detail", only to find that when I customized it, the manual than says that it is only good for that one folder. I don't want the file date, nor the attributes showing and it seems to me rather tedious, to have to go through all of the folders individually...
