what you describe is the designed behaviour of xplorer2 and I don't know how else to describe it to you. When you save a particular folder e.g. for thumbnails, when you go up to the root folder or any other non-special folder, you have to switch back to detailed view manually, but you only do this ...

Defining Column Layouts
I went into a pane and set it for "Detail", only to find that when I customized it, the manual than says that it is only good for that one folder. I don't want the file date, nor the attributes showing and it seems to me rather tedious, to have to go through all of the folders individually...
