but it does not seem to have any registration key in it.

I bet people that never used 2x like the default bars.

My main problem is the auto sorting.
Drives me crazy that I cannot turn it off. I loath auto sorting.

Because of it I only try out new builds to see if it is still there.
Then back to 2x.

You might be able to do it without deleting everything.
From the FAQ.txt included with 2x:

It will suffice to delete all the "MainFrame Settings-*.*" subkeys (where *.* stands for Bar0, Bar1,... and Summary).

Why don't other managers remember the files/folders you were recently using?
I think this might be called 'persistance'.

I have only seen it in Magellan Explorer and it is no match for 2x.
This feature is one of those "can't live without" things for me.
