Re: BSOD when moving large files between ext. drives

What happens if you move the files with File Explorer?

I regularly move several 2-5GB podcast files from an ancient (120GB) external USB drive to an internal HDD with File Explorer with no problems. I use File Explorer because that's what my downloader wants to talk to.

Re: xplorer² summer offer (upgrade discount)

Thanks nikos I've never looked at Deskrule - will do so in next day or two, but I'd then be jumping into it from X2. I don't think I really need the advanced search panels so I'd probably think about DR Lite. I'm not unhappy with jumping out to explorer to do searches, but it would be nice to do the...

Re: msi files - can't move / delete / rename

@ jimspoon - nikos implemented a couple of registry keys for me that limit what file types are shown in preview - szQVDraftExtList and szQVNativeExtList. https://thumbs2.imgbox.com/07/c3/P7wJ6DXP_t.jpg <<== click Those settings mean I can only see jpegs and text files in preview, i.e. they are INclu...

Re: msi files - can't move / delete / rename

@ jimspoon Which version of Windows ? Next time something won't delete, try signing out and signing back in to Windows - for me the file would be gone. And it was always in my Downloads folder, but never with MSI's, with videos, images, mp3s etc, and only with Delete. I keep a symlink to my d...

Re: xplorer² summer offer (upgrade discount)

if you need fast indexed search, you need xplorer2 ultimate or deskrule i'm glad you like the epub filter, it is actually from Sumatra pdf I sorta knew it wasn't Foxit, hence the ' ? ' At the moment I select the folder where I want to start the search, press 'O' to open File Explorer, and do the co...

Re: msi files - can't move / delete / rename

I can't move, delete, or rename .msi files in my downloads folder in xplorer2. I get a message that the files are open in xplorer2, but I can't see how they this is so. Any help? I've had this with on occasion when deleting, but not with move or rename - but that was on Win7. Don't think I've seen ...

Re: xplorer² summer offer (upgrade discount)

Nikos - How ya doing.

Remind me, does the Professional version integrate with Windows Search (i.e. use the Windows search index) or is that only the Ultimate version.

Not sure if I told you, I'm using the Epub iFilter you filched from.... Foxit (?) - to good effect.

Re: archive counts

I can't get anything sensible from 7zip shell. Can't compress a folder or contents. Can't even open a 7z file with it from xplorer2 or File Manager context menu. Only does anything sensible if I start the GUI from a friggin shortcut. Never understood why everyone raved about it 10 years ago, still d...

Re: archive counts

you can see more of the file in draft preview if you increase the Text preview size value in Tools > Options, Window page (preview section) Thanks - should have RTFM. What about the content counts for selected file types. There would have to be an equivalence table somewhere, e.g. ZIP: CBZ, EPUB, D...

Re: archive counts

@ nikos , how about a registry option to control it. Similar to the one to only preview certain file types. Would only do the count if its in the list, personally I'd only count CBZs, wouldn't bother with DOCX, EPUBs etc. Speaking of which, I finally got around to installing and testing your EPUB IF...

archive counts

Does the latest version of X2 populate the Contents column for 'file types' such as DOCX, ODT, CBZ, CBR etc, i.e. those that are in fact archives i.e. ZIP, RAR etc. If not, would it be possible to add such a feature?

Thanks

Re: Context manu copy path name

Copy as Path is a half-hidden Windows feature, you get it in the context menu by Shift+Right click on the file/folder in question. In the Windows File Manager, it's in the Home ribbon - in plain sight, kb sequence is Alt, H, CP.

Re: blog: epub ebook text filter

If I find something that will show an epub preview in Windows File Damager I'll let you know of it. The blog post is headed "Plain text preview and keyword searches in EPUB documents" I assumed it searched the dc elements (subject, author, publisher etc) in the opf file. But on reading the...
