Re: new version under way

If I use the Duck Duck Go search (as an extention in Chrome) searching on 'x2ResUpdater' the first 5 entries are all Zabkat. The 6th one is Github.

If I use Google to do the search I just get the one Github result.

Re: new version under way

I think adding KIlmatead's extensions to X2 would actually be a way to honor him! You asked for input, but when people give you some (that you apparently don't want to do) you make (non-technical) excuses as to why it would not be good. It is not necessary to include all of those addons from the two...

Re: blog: test covid tests

You math people should be wary of throwing around numbers. In a typical year about 50,000 people in the US die from flu. About 350,000 died from Covid in a year. That is a death rate that is 6 times that of flu. But those numbers are meaningless because we have a flu vaccine and many people get it e...

Re: blog: test covid tests

Nikos, since you brought up the subject, would you share your rationale for not being vaccinated?

Re: blog: test covid tests

The problem with your school example is that many people are asymptomatic. So you do not necessarily know who has it and who does not. Mathematically you would need to assign a probability of being able to determine (without a test) who (or how many) are actually infected. Testing everyone is the on...

Re: xplorer2 v4207 beta

I have no issues with the dark mode colors as long as it does not take away my ability to have colors that are easy for me to read! As you point out, the old monitors were often dark backgrounds with green or white text. HOWEVER, many dark themes have black backgrounds with light gray text which is ...

Re: xplorer2 v4207 beta

You are not alone in disliking the dark themes. Not sure what the advantage is other than making it harder for older eyes to read the text unless there is a LOT of contrast between text and background colors. I also like the bright background in the morning - it helps wake me up.

Re: Any news from Kilmatead?

I am not really Dracula, either. But with the state of the internet, openness is dangerous. I had interacted with kilmatead from time to time. His life as a gardener and caretaker of a property outside of, but near, Dublin seemed to be his revealed persona. He was also aware of my posts in ano...

Re: forum relocation

Speaking if kilmatead, as you were. Isn't there some way to find out what happened to him? Is he even still alive? There must be forum members that can find some info if someone has his real name. I would not want him to fade away without some acknowledgement of him and his contributions here and ot...

Or, maybe he is on a pub-crawl through Europe (or the US).

Re: blog: all that jazz

Kilmatead, I tried to post a reply on Wednesday, but when I clicked Submit, the window disappeared and nothing got posted. This has happened before on this forum so I usually copy my post before submitting, but I was in a hurry and forgot to do so. I only mention this because that lost post was so m...

Kilmatead, First, yes I am still around. I just haven't had anything I wanted to contribute. I checked out your link to Kip's YouTube "beautiful scars". I can understand why you listened to it for a month. Thanks for sharing it. I guess a thanks to Niko is also in order since he started th...

Re: deskrule 1106 beta

Dunno, I am not sure why you think I do not place quality very high on the list. I am also "old school" and do my best to produce high quality work. And if someone finds an issue with my work I will do whatever it takes to fix the issue - even if I am not getting paid to do it. That is ME....

Re: deskrule 1106 beta

Dunno, If software is poorly designed, why do you buy it??? The auto industry has a LOT of competition and MANY levels of quality. Excluding the highest and lowest priced cars, there is at least a factor of 3 price difference between the bottom tier and the top tier. Even the airline industry has co...

Re: deskrule 1106 beta

Dunno, Oh. That is very different then multithreading. In the days gone by, when I was working in the guts of computers. the mouse and other peripherals used interrupts to signal data was waiting. Not sure if that is still done. If not, it would partly explain why the mouse locks up. With interrupts...
