Re: Smarter rename

I decided to have a go at a function to create folders from random strings copied to the clipboard (e.g. book names, movies, URLs) and automatically do two things: 1. Change the invalid characters for a predetermined list of substitutes. 2. Change the case to Title Case, since most of the time I'm g...

Re: forum relocation

Also, is it really that hard to GREP all the topics to change "forum.zabkat.com" to "forum.zabkat.com"?

Re: forum relocation

I see that all private messages are gone.

Are you planning to recover those? I'd hate to loose some of the correspondence there with someone whom I may never have the opportunity to write to again.

Re: Smarter rename

awxRename has several "native" options (on the context menu) including upper, lower and sentence case. There's an advanced option to execute a Perl script against the names, too. I have it installed and also use F2 Mass Rename. Hasn't been updated since 2006 but still works fine for me. -----------...

Re: Smarter rename

So if you implemented the filter in F2 renaming, where's the logic to leave it out of F7/F8 naming/renaming? The invalid characters can't be in the final name, so toss them and show a note in the info bar that you did and move on. So anyway, whether this s a new request, bump of an old request, or j...

Re: Smarter rename

Well, here we are 4 plus years and two full revisions later and I still have to manually remove invalid characters when pasting a string in to replace "New folder" when I press F8 to create a folder. <sigh> ------------------------------ pj in (missing K :( ) FL editted 2018-12-18 1721Z to correct t...

Re: xplorer2 suggestion box

I'd like to suggest: Separate threads or whatever it takes so when one tab/pane is busy, waiting for a drive to respond, busy with a copy operation, etc., that the other tabs/panes are not locked up as well. Many times I get the "Not responding" message from Windows when I've clicked on a tab/pane t...

Re: Any news from Kilmatead?

We've passed the one year mark since Kilmatead's last post. I'm still rooting for the theory he ticked off the Old Bailey who told him he needed a time out, of about a year or so. Maybe he'll be out in time for Christmas.

Anyway, K, if you read this, you're missed.

Re: Parameters Not Initialized for Empty Folder

...in the meantime you can use $L and make sure your scripts run from the left pane only Please don't assume this will work in all cases. My usual workflow is LEFT/TOP is old, RIGHT/BOTTOM is new so I've been running scripts like this almost exclusively in the bottom pane. Thanks for taking a look ...

Re: Parameters Not Initialized for Empty Folder

When setting up a new project folder, I can't get the folder's name for further processing. I have to actually search all items in the hard-coded parent folder (sFolder) to find the newest item, then use that result to continue building the new project folder structure. I can't just use the $P varia...

Parameters Not Initialized for Empty Folder

I've had to work around this little glitch, but thought I'd bring it up to at least discuss the reasoning or if it can be added to the long list of minor fixes: Essentially, parameters $P, $C and $U are null if the folder in focus has no files, but $L and $R are set. Easily tested with this simple V...

Re: Search within selected folders

Ah, yes, I can see that annoying some people. :D I did it that way just because I like to start searches tabula-rasa, with all fields clear, so I don't end up overlooking that I had last-searched for some "containing text" and then wondering why follow-up searches kept failing despite having no int...
