Re: So, HERE's a way for Nikos to spend his copious free tim

(The results are not necessarily guaranteed, be sure to always check them yourself - it has been tested, but as you can see it's a little complex so weird things could still occur.) I live in interesting times. I set up a user command and put it on a small toolbar with other filtering conditions. I...

Re: So, HERE's a way for Nikos to spend his copious free tim

probably there's already a solution for this, see here http://www.zabkat.com/x2h_5.htm#xa_fuzzy you have to experiment a little with the fuzzy factor, try 80 or more Nikos, I know the love (there's that word again) you have for your scrap containers. Me .... not so much. I never fully understood th...

Re: So, HERE's a way for Nikos to spend his copious free tim

I knew if I threw a little Irish love into the original self-serving request, I might find a solution if it didn't trigger Nikos' obsession with making x2 the all-knowing, all-seeing master of the file-management universe. Two shots, one direct hit. Okay, the beta is downloaded and I have a freshly ...

So, HERE's a way for Nikos to spend his copious free time

Hi there Nikos (and lurkers of the Scottish kind, plus others of fine heritage), In the renamer thread of earlier this month, I opined Nikos would be engaging in a bit of a Sisyphean task. We ALL have our favourite renamers, including some who are happy with the existing one in x2. So, I suggested N...

Re: My solution for ponderous NAS file movement. Don't!

Now, we do have some Fijians in town [...] Junior Girls Rugby World Championships [...] I have it without good authority that the slang is CLAMS. Methinks you've confused that with the otherwise rhyming "ain't she got great gams " - being that gangsters (as in Tommy-guns, not contemporary...

Re: My solution for ponderous NAS file movement. Don't!

I actually doubt using SSDs for large-capacity NAS storages are worth the money yet. Why would I trade some multi-TByte selfmade "NAS" just to have a faster write cycle? This is true, on the multi-T-scale it's not worth it. That said, the difference between normal write cycle and "fa...

Re: My solution for ponderous NAS file movement. Don't!

Whatever happened to Plug and Play.... Actually, that reminds me - in the original post above, Gary mentions his (old?) NAS drives (within the enclosure) were hot-swappable... I was wondering if that tech has gotten any better since I played with it (a few years ago, now). I had nothing but trouble...

Re: My solution for ponderous NAS file movement. Don't!

Thanks for your Info/Rant. I have a 2TB NAS by Seagate, the thing is so darned slow over the air and only twice as fast with a LAN cable, pathetic, it's ok for Video streaming, just. But as you mentioned file transfer speeds are suicidally slow, and this from a guy who has time on his hands. My ran...

Re: good renamer

'how about those scroll bar additions ... You may just have to learn to live with <Home> and <End> keys for this sort of GUI frippery... even I have a fluff-limit when it comes to making life a little too easy for mice-people... "x2 is not an iPhone" (we're having t-shirts with tha...

Re: My solution for ponderous NAS file movement. Don't!

Nikos, Network Attached Storage boxes are containers that you shove a drive (or several) into and the contents become accessible to everything on the network in question. FREQUENTLY, because NAS's were originally intended for small/medium size office use and frequently as central data repositories a...

Re: good renamer

Acknowledged. But what I was asking was a little x in the filter box itself, a common enough standard for clearing the field. I WAS aware of the ability to have a yet another separately setup button on a toolbar ALREADY TOO CROWDED by half. But, you are definitely correct in your observation about a...

Re: Comments Question ... for folders

Comments on the ProBox 4-drive USB3.0 system that I talked about in a separate thread work perfectly fine. VERY FINE. Indeed. So, I have ditched NAS's for a couple of these ProBox's from MediaSonic and Bob's Your Uncle.

My solution for ponderous NAS file movement. Don't!

Hi all, Been a semi-regular whiner for the last couple of years at the speed of copying large amounts of files around my home network. Whether using Nikos' Robust Copy, FastCopy, TeraCopy and even FreeFileSync, the fact is that folders with a gazillion icon files or a total of 1T+, or even healthy p...

Re: good renamer

It's interesting that the posts above mention a plethora of renamers, all of which I think the users have arrived at through testing and are ... personal preferences. I could add that I like the FileMenu Tools Advanced Renamer for what it's worth. But that I use the current one in xplorer2 as circum...

Re: Comments Question ... for folders

without crash information file, I can't do much more guessing for you. You can try this divide and conquer method temporarily disabling shell extensions until you find the culprit http://www.zabkat.com/blog/19jul09-divide-and-conquer.htm Nikos, Thanks for the tip on ShellExView. I have it of course...
