I have used windows Remote Desktop, and it works well, there is also Windows Remote Assistance, which I think is what you're looking for.

Logmein works well as remote desktop, I use that currently, less hassle to setup than windows RD.

right, I think the problem is with my mp3 players filelisting, as I can only reproduce this with my mp3 player, and not when copying locally.

I cannot reproduce what you describe. AFAIK windoze normally cannot tolerate that and its native shell won't let it happen. Are you running an alternative shell? [edit/add]... or is the target 'folder' inside a compressed file? I do all my copy and pasting in X2, I move music folders/albums around ...

in HD1 I have a folder(x) with files a,b,c,d; If I then copy folder(x) from HD1 to HD2 which has a previous copy of the same folder(x) with files a,b,c it will merge the contents on HD2; file listing is then as follows
