Whoops
Mea culpa... I was at the office on my Linux system when I wrote that, and I just hastened home (in doubt) and discovered my mistake. You're faster than I, PGagnon, & I should learn when to keep my mouth shut. Sorry. Still, a search syntax whose behavior doesn't change depending on the ...

Quick switching between pane views
I'd like to revisit a topic which has been mentioned in the past: What would make things really fine would be a quick key to switch between 'detail' and 'thumbnail' view. (Mike Baxter, Mon Oct 11, 2004) Switching between views with a single operation is something I have wished X2 would allow since I...

Unable to reset the "read-only" attribute on a dir
Perhaps someone can help with a "read-only" problem I have with directories on my NTFS system. External programs I've written in perl are sometimes unable to rename a directory, getting a "Permission denied" error message. When I look at the directory's properties using <F12> (w...

Thumbnail caching... not really needed
Caching is nice for viewing stable directories. Before I discovered xplorer2, I configured MS Explorer to cache thumbnails. After a short time, however, I disabled this due to the disadvantages: - it eats up amazing amounts of disk space over time - the caches get recreated too easily when files a...

"Eating" the <F2> selection & selecting
BRX's suggestions are top-flight. I'd like to echo them and offer an idea about how one of them might be implemented (if Nikos is of a mind to do so) without introducing new checkboxes & registry whatzits). 1. Selecting the entire filename with <F2><F2> Echoing BRX's caveat about whether it's ...

Look 'n feel are secondary issues
ckit's reply to Nikos's dogface comment is about the funniest visual posting I've ever seen I echo his and RickyF's thoughts too, I don't really care how xplorer2 looks (& it looks fine to me!), just how it works!

Plaudits & thanks
Thanks narayan & nikos. I can be pretty thick-headed but I'm getting the picture. When in doubt... 1) check manual 2) check registry.txt if not found 3) make sure you've got the up-to-date version if not found 4) come here & look through forums I can't think of another product which is...

Possible solution
Hi Nikos, Maybe this is the solution. I found a description for the function CompareString on the MSDN web site which indicates that when used with no special arguemtns, it uses the librarian's sorting method (called the "Word Sort"), which treats hyphens and single-quotes specially. If o...
