Re: #manatwork

Thanks for the help and info. My automation is finished, and I sort of like it, but it is neither robust nor elegant. It will help with my current project. The flexibility of X2 has always been impressive to me. Looking forward to the next release.

Re: #manatwork

That works on folders -- thanks. With a little AutoHotkey automation I'll be home free. Start with a list and the visual filter set to show-selected-only (my normal state in this particular work flow). A hotkey will pop up a text box in which the search string is typed. On enter: close the text box,...

Re: #manatwork

In trying to find a way to clairfy, I stumbled upon Mark Select Group and Mark Unselect Group. These work identically to "more" and "less", in that they are cumulative and each applies itself to the existing current state. Perfect. But the problem for me is that they do not work ...

Re: #manatwork

Here is something I would have found really really useful over the past few months. I know this is wish number 4, but I think it is in the domain of the useful features you do add to X2 and which give X2 its advantages. And I have wanted for a long while to make suggestion that might lead to an even...

Re: #manatwork

A command line option to specify the position of the X2 window (X, Y, W, H), for both normal and scrap-frame windows. For years I've hacked the registry, prefilling its positioning parameters (binWindowPlacement), in order to get the next window to open (the one I am setting up to open) to open wher...

Re: suggestion: cycling through address bar

I am guessing that BRX is describing this. It turns out (who knew? not me until this post appeared) that the address bar is a drop-down list, and it contains lots of history and, at the end, a lot of shell commands. If you use the arrow up-down keys to move in the list, you get stuck at the bottom (...

Re: how to find all folders and files in a folder

This works for me: ?* (a question mark followed by an asterisk). I think that means "at least one character followed by anything at all (including nothing)". If there is a file with a zero-character name I do not know what happens; likewise, if there is a file with a space or a multi-space...

Re: Can't create a user command to move a file

It seems likely that you mean to execute the DOS move command to move the file from one place to another. If so, the command should be prefixed with "$" rather than ">". ">" is for windows commands; "$" is for DOS commands. On my system the (example) command &...

Color tag nitlet

Just noticed that the color tag border does not fully enclose the colored background for an item with background color. Also looks as if the left edge is missing a pixel in width (set to 2 in advanced settings). (I know the colored background can't be extended to fill the box.) https://i.imgur.com/I...

Ah, well, OK. The programmable column is great, by the way, and well worth the upgrade.

View->Arrange and programmable column

When I have a pane open in details view, and have defined and activated a programmable column, the View->Arrange menu does not initally list Programmable as one of the possible arrangements. Subsequently, if I click on the header of the Programmable column, the data is sorted by the contents of that...

"Actions->Change dates" is a lifesaver

Went on a trip from San Francisco to Europe, took a ream of photos on my smartphone, returned home, and copied the photos to the computer using something (forget what at the moment). This software, trying to be helpful in some abstract sense, changed all of the file "modified" times from t...

Re: Bug: No quickjump to entry starting with char-samechar

You are right, and the Windows Explorer behaves the same way. The reason for this, though, is that repeated uses of the (same) character cause the selected item to advance to the next item starting with that letter. The first use of the letter gets you to the first item with that letter; subsequent ...

Re: website test

Well, what do you know. The arrows do appear if the mouse goes to just the right spot. But how on earth is a user to know where the spot is and that there is anything there? Especially as you show a big X in the upper right corner (which to me implies what controls should look like on the rest of th...
