Re: Namespace extensions and/or Total Commander plugins?

Can I use 7z NSE for archives and TC plugins for other purposes at the same time? Note that both 7zNSE and plugins allow themselves to be separately targeted at specific (file-extension) types, so from that point of view if you (for some reason) use 7zNSE for handling RAR and ZIP's, but a plugin fo...

Re: blog: optimal I/O buffer size, revisited

I use it prior to accessing my NAS with X2, it speeds things up considerably. As the Laws of Unintended Consequences go, that sounds more like a speeding ticket making you late for your wedding, and thus annoying your flibbertigibbet fiancée so much that she rejects you for a South-American dwarf-t...

Re: Are custom macros possible in x2?

It's just that I noticed the custom user commands option but haven't a clue how to use it. Custom user-commands are more of an "on demand" programme-launch type of paradigm, rather than a scheduler-based one. For example, if you needed to select a group of .MP4 files and convert them (usi...

Re: blog: optimal I/O buffer size, revisited

Of course the big problem is taking the windows cache out of the picture. How can this be done? a simple solution is to reboot the PC and run the timing code on "fresh" RAM — but that would be tedious and take ages. since there's no API to flush the read cache :(, best you can do is eithe...

Huh, "Lank, Joined: Fri 12-Oct- 2007 "... 2007, eh? That's only... <counts fingers and toes>... a decade? :D (Sorry, couldn't resist.) To add to Frizzle's instructions, you may also use $P to pass the current folder x2 is browsing, instead of any specific file therein, though whethe...

Re: blog: putting advanced text matching to the test

that sounds like quantum computing, intriguing but in the end of the day... wtf!? Your man was using an example based on gophers burning old computer manuals in the most efficient way possible with an idea from the guy who created q-sort... how much more dumbed-down can it get than that? Gophers &a...

Re: finding long file names??

The Characters [S] column was introduced in version 3.0.0.0, for the record. As the regexp won't work either (even in the newest versions), you might be limited to using some form of scripting (as mentioned previously in this thread). so you don't need to bother finding them in the first place Often...

Re: finding long file names??

Curiously, that regexp seems to only work with smaller numbers... for example .{150,} would find anything over 150 characters, but .{200,} fails to find anything, even when they exist. I would posit this has something to do with how x2 internally represents the paths (nikos loves his 8.3 reductions)...

Re: blog: putting advanced text matching to the test

not sure how it would work bytewise on unicode or UTF8 encodings It's solved (at least in one method ) by separately hashing the shift-table rows limited to characters in the pattern itself... It is easy to build a shift table with the number of rows equal to the number of charset characters if the...

Re: build 3402 released

Nirsoft gives away his stuff for free; in my case, any false positives result in lost sales. Look on the bright-side, because of that, you get to have a more personal understanding of Kafka than Nirsoft might: it's the casual indifference of these AV companies (towards you) which results in the gre...

Re: build 3402 released

This appears to be part of the eternal headaches for small dev's . Especially these days where many over-anxious companies (in this case the ever-unreliable Trend Micro, but applies to Malwarebytes, et al), who base their "web protection" modules rather indiscriminately, thinking that if i...

Re: Painless Custom Toolbars (No Morphine/Tourniquets Required)

Small update to 2.0.4 for compatibility with x2 version 3.4.0.2 (Nikos really shouldn't be allowed to meddle with his own code without parental supervision anymore - he keeps changing things so insignificant that he thinks no one would ever notice, yet these changes always accumulate to upset my pre...

Re: xplorer2 HACK : Convert any menu item to a toolbar button !!

The first link (v1.2) in the initial post works fine (it's my dropbox). The programme was last updated in 2016. I think Nikos keeps an official copy in a blog-post, but God only knows which one it's in... All 'public' dropbox links on the internet had to be changed a few months ago, and it would app...

It would be more logical if clicking the 'x' on the filterbar also cancelled colour-filters even if there is no actual text in the filterbar itself (you filter all results by only by colour tags). As it is now, the only way to cancel that filter is to double-click the status-bar filter icon (which i...

Re: Symmetry

Just what does this have [to do with] the OP? Well, you posited your ideas, Nikos dismissed them as more or less "not a good idea", and you didn't fight back. I argued in your case, Nikos became sullen, grumpy, non-committal, and tried to change the topic, which is always a sure sign that...
