i think the mystery is solved! 2x sets an internal timeout while resolves shortcuts. If this expires then it's "not a shortcut". Now, depending on the network traffic, the speed of the connection etc, it seems that sometimes it makes it and sometimes not. That explains why the failure is intermitten...

you can't hide the directories, but i've added this feature in my list of things to do the INSert key does work in 2x too (see keyboard.txt ) but you still have to be careful to press Ctrl when you press arrow keys. The save selection command [Ctrl+F11] is also useful as a protection measure against...

join the club! we all love 2x around here ;) anyway coming to your question, i wouldn't recommend replacing windows explorer completely with 2x, or else you'll get problems opening things like ControlPanel etc. These are not activated by paths but use some thing called DDE instead, which 2x cannot f...

the hex view mode is only supported for read-only sessions. If you opened a file for editing, you need to hit F6 first (or check View | ReadOnly -> I'm not sure how this menu is called in the German version :) ) and then the hex mode will be available for activation

the problem with Vassili was that he had tweaked off the little arrow overlay which appears on shortcut icons. The tweak involved removing the value for "IsShortcut" from registry's HKCR\lnkfile as a result 2x could not detect the "shortcutness" any more. For him none of the shortcuts worked; it see...

this is another known "feature" ;)

well, just collapse and re-expand the branch one level further up from where this folder is. In the worst case, collapse the whole tree from the root (desktop)

that should do it!

2x doesn't get the autorefresh right all the time. In fact it is guaranteed to get it somehow wrong when changes occur within network or mapped network drives to refresh a normal pane hit [Ctrl+R] for the tree, just collapse the node one level up from where you want to refresh and then reexpand it. ...

i was going to say that the registry is irrelevant, but since i'ver run out of clues here, let's poke into your registry a bit.

please save & email to me the following keys
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.lnk
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\lnkfile

perhaps there's something weird in there!

See Mark | Print selection menu
if you want to "print" all the files just select them all first with [Ctrl+A]

I say "print" instead of print since the command does not actually print anything, it just generates a formatted text output that is printer ready & loaded in the editor

dowload.com (CNET) are run by foul salespeople now, with no other interest but $$$ in their pockets :pissed: after buying most of the (formerly) big shareware publishing sites they are now in a strong position and are trying to squeeze pennies out of developers who want to have their programs listed...

"problem" is that i like how the website looks like, kind of kewl as your new avatar -- who's that handsome lad? on the other hand your taste is not half bad, so if you can come up with an equally nice yet more legible set of cascading style sheet color settings let me know when i was writtin...

that's strange!
how do you create the shortcut?
is the target in the local filesystem or on the network?
does it happen all the time/for all targets?

i've never experienced any such problems in any windows OS, and I've used them all...

you need to enable extensions for all your systems using the standard Folder Options dialog (available from explorer's menu, control panel etc). Here's a snapshot of how thigs should look like (actually you need to clear the hilighted option shown :)
