i don't think i'll ever have time to write my own zip/rar/etc code, not when solutions already exist. If you use 2000 then see FAQ #26. It's not a "hack"; you may consider it as installing an additional feature. I have been using zipfolders with 2000 for months without a problem. The probl...

imho longhorn (if it ever materialises) will be way over the top. It is going to break tons of existing programs that have non-trivial file operations, all in the name of "finding things easily". So everybody will have to recalibrate their minds, just because M$ run out of things to push a...

you may be prophetic here a database-like filesystem is coming in a few years' time, if we are to believe microsoft's Longhorn hype my personal opinion about this would be negative. There will be too many "old dogs" having to learn new tricks from scratch, on mikro$oft's whim. 2x/x2 would ...

the "secret" is in the greyed out menu item text to set a bookmark press (all at the same time) [Ctrl+Shift+ number ] where number is from 0-5 for 6 bookmarks. That will set a bookmark at the current active folder. Then use the simpler [Ctrl+ number ] shortcut (or a menu item) to goto the ...

if you can't get it back via resizing (enlarging) the window, try the [Ctrl+E] shortcut from View menu. If that doesn't fix it (I can't see why not) then take a look at FAQ #11 which describes how to get rid of a similar problem

i fear i'm going to upset you again in the tree i have explicitly discarded the [Del] key to prevent accidents. Accidents in the tree are so much more dangerous than in a file frame since you run the risk of deleting a lot of stuff with one swift stroke the only way you can delete in the tree is wit...

are you talking about the functionality where the tree is updated every time you change folders in the right pane? (Tools | Keep tree in sync command in 2x)

that's not implemented yet in x2, but it should be in for next week's release

i don't recommend replacing windows explorer. This goes for 98 and all the rest windows platforms

what you can do however is adding a new verb for folders and associate it with 2x as explained in FAQ #15

i'd prefer to see the context of this error. Please email me the whole debug output with a brief explanation of what you were doing at the moment. Does it go away if you click on ignore?

that's a problem. 2x uses commas to separate multi-strings. The "Look In" box accepts multiple paths like: c:\temp , d:\winnt if one of your folders contains a comma, then it will be mistaken for a separator. I guess this is a bug, but I never expected commas to be found in file/folder nam...

exe and zip are not normally displayed next to one another. So you'll still have to peruse two different groups that's all i'm saying. It's a matter of getting used to zipfolders as folders, unlearning a few old tricks  :xmas:
