What does 'newer' mean in Sync Wizard > 'Newer' items?

Which type of date exactly does "Newer" refer to under Mark > Sync Wizard > Select items that are > Newer (checkbox)? For example in this scenario: Say you have the identical Word doc on your computer, and on an external hard drive. Then you make changes to the one on your computer. Then y...

Thumbnails taking 1 to 10 minutes to load

This has been driving me up the wall for many many years. How do I get thumbnails to load faster? Loading a folder of thumbnails can take anywhere from 1 second to 10 minutes. This is for any given folder i.e. one single folder might sometimes take 1 second and sometimes 10 minutes or anything in be...

Thumbnails don't update after photos edited

How I get xplorer2 to update thumbnails after photos have been edited? Usually the editing in question is cropping.

Re: Column for image captions?

I am not aware of this property but if it doesn't show up in the property page of your images (see the DETAILS tab) Turns out it's the very first property of all(!) and Windows calls it "Title" I tried four or five photo metadata editors and read about a dozen articles on managing photo c...

Column for image captions?

Does xplorer2 display any column that is recognized as an image caption by Wordpress? The metadata field I am talking about has a few slightly different names: IrfanView calls it " Caption (description) " in the IPTC metadata. ExifToolGUI (metadata viewer program) calls it " Caption-A...

Compare on name and size

I want to compare two folders that have identical subfolder structures (i.e. same number of subfolders, with same names) but within those the number and or sizes of files may differ. So I want to select pairs where the subfolder name matches but the size does not. Is there a way to do this? It doesn...

'Automatically resize Name column' can't be turned off

I have "Automatically resize Name column in detailed view" turned off, but it's still auto-resizing. I'm guessing this option means, when it's on, the Name column expands to the width of the longest filename in the folder you're in. When off, the width stays at whatever you set it to by cl...

Re: Compare all contents of 2 folders including subfolders?

If you're looking for instant overview-granularity such as finding/viewing orphans in subfolders (as unique files), etc, then no, the inbuilt sync-wizard isn't practical for this. Doesn't Tools > Compare subfolders (which I didn't know about until the previous reply) do that? It seems to. Or am I m...

Compare all contents of 2 folders including subfolders?

Is there a way to sync (such as with Sync Wizard) two folders including all their files that are in subfolders, so I can see every unique file? In other words sync two browsed-flat folders? I tried this and it didn't work: - Browse folder #1 flat with shift-enter - ctrl-O in the resulting scrap cont...

Re: Compare nested directories?

the el-cheapo free ones like WinDiff I am trying Windiff right now and it's taking about 30 seconds per file and there are ~1,400 files. Does that sound right? I only need comparison on file name, not date or size or anything else. Pretty sure Excel could do this by - - browse top folder #1 flat - ...

Re: Syncing folders that have renamed files and subfolders

While I'm the biggest fan (and endless proponent) of the Beyond Compare programme Ugh I have a real problem with paying $50 for a program that does one thing and could stop working after one year or maybe two, due to so-called upgrades by either the program or Windows that break it, which technical...

Re: Compare nested directories?

Methinks you're beginning to understand why so many of us keep dedicated comparison programmes in our arsenals, as in your previous thread . I'm totally open to dedicated programs that do some small thing well and agree that's easier than digging through very non-intuitive menus in 'swiss army knif...

Re: Syncing folders that have renamed files and subfolders

I wonder if we are talking about the same thing here. Let's say that at the beginning, the hierarchies are synchronized with 3 sibling folders as such A - A B - B C - C then one day I decide to move the folder B on my computer UNDER A A > B C I expect the next syncrhonization to detect a "loss...
