viewer-wise i'm thinking about a generic active-X viewer, similar to the thumbnail but managing more documents (e.g. office stuff with full functionality and whatever else supplies an activeX viewer). There will be one of these open for all files, so it will work like the thumbnail but will have mor...

unfortunately i don't know anything about the PDF format internals. I don't know anything about GIF etc either but for these image types M/$ provided extraction procedures that 2x can tap into if adobe decide to to the same with their PDF format, integrating their product with windows shell, then 2x...

so there you have it, express service for user satisfaction. The latest 0.0.0.10 alpha comes with hands-free tree activation as requested. This option should come as default, but just in case make sure your binTreeOptions registry value is set to 3. It is made up of the sum of any of the following &...

a combined scrap/search window, so you can make multiple searches and "add up* the search results for file-handling. that would complicate things but for sure you'll be able to drag-drop from the find results onto any scrap frame, hence eventually achieving what a dual search/scrap combo would...

i guess you're right

but that's not really a top priority for me

now, if we could get a industrious volunteer from 2x's user base to do these conversions, wouldn't that be lovely?  ;)

boolean search algorithms are every bit as complicated as regular expression matching (especially the NEAR keyword). I could write my own code for that but I bet it's going to be really slow. There are some "tricks" that I wouldn't know to improve search efficiency that's why i need to fin...

i don't know much about networks
however UNC paths are a standard thing for accessing remote computers

i don't know why some computers don't show up automatically. Perhaps it has something to do with how they are organized in "domains" or something.

i have to admit that i've never used this "Find computer" command myself -- i guess i'm not using networks too much. Still, if you know the name you're looking for, wouldn't a UNC path in the address bar do the trick without searching (?) e.g. \\computerName\share perhaps a network fanatic...

it looks like down deep your XP still considers zips as folders, that's why 2x steps into them i believe that once you unregister the dll that is responsible for zipfolders as explained in FAQ # 25, you'll be fine. You'll have to execute: regsvr32 /u zipfldr.dll If that comes up with a happy unregis...

x2 snapshots are only for those brave enough to try the alpha version  :D dude! it's ok! x2 is alpha but it is quite stable. Thousands of people have tried it and didn't report any major catastrophies (except for that guy whose hard disk got accidentally formatted  ;) ) I have to call it alpha so as...

boolean and regular expression searches are in my plans -- as long as i find the code for these difficult programming issues

the google-like result presentation is a nice idea but i can't think of a way to do it within a list view control used by 2x

> 2XExplorer does not show the real icons of shortcuts

this is a known problem with NT4. Actually I can't figure out why it happens when it does, however it doesn't happen all the time (only after long-term use)

the workaround is to quit & restart 2x

> In the left pane select 10 files/folders and hit Control+B That's a little trick to "fool" 2x's batch file generator to create 10 sets of commands (it doesn't matter which 10 since the names themselves aren't being used in this particular example). All that matters is to get 10 commands...

perhaps that's not essential in 2x with its mere 3 columns (double-click on the header separator would do fine), it looks like it's a good feature for the new xplorer² and its loads of columns

so your request for improvement is registered

nice hat-trick this one!

still, why not select the 10 (arbitrary) files in the active folder and use a template like mkdir New_Folder_$01 -- saves you a bit on keystrokes  :)
