these temporary folders are a known issue
x2 or 2x automatically delete them after getting out of a zipfolder
however i'm not aware of a limit like 99 files per zipfolder
have you installed SP1 for XP by any chance?

in windows 2000 and onwards you can associate comments to files but not folders. At any case the old 2x can't see either (the new x2 can for files)

as i mentioned in my email (which BTW bounced) it looks like 2x isn't the tool for your needs...

alpha.txt contains the square 2 character which was considered "binary"
from now on it won't!

like the main toolbar it will be possible to turn it on/off, no worries!

that's what registry sub-keys are for in windows menu they allow you to save things under an alternative key and also you can open new windows from all the available alt keys. I have one e.g. that opens a small one pane window at a later stage when named properties are going to be saved in the regis...

wrt drivebar, the only reason that it's being held back is some uncertainty in the toolbar and layout/docking code that is going to be used in the end of the day. Many people swear by the drivebar, so it is coming albeit not in the immediate future

the problem looks like a total collapse of zipfolder contents. You can't read files for some reason. Try d-clicking on a file, will that open it?

Another possibility: is this just in x2 or (2x)explorer fails too? Perhaps a reboot will sort things out

so you are saying that F3 won't view alpha.txt within a zip whereas a search with "all files" checked will find text contained in it? I'll have to see the dbmon output for this!

"find text" (aka grep) is for text files, those that are readable by notepad or ed2 if x2 sees "funny" characters it assumes the file is "binary". A word .doc is "binary" in this context "search all files" instructs x2 to look into such binary files ...

both 2x and x2 have a default 1MB limit for creating thumbnails. They won't show bigger files. But there are registry tweaks available, e.g. see registry.txt in 2x's distribution package

i don't know what can be wrong
but at least if you can drop correctly (minus the hilighting) it is a bearable glitch!
