Re: wot are you like

Nikos, There are blessedly few pictures of me outstanding (not withstanding any wanted posters I'm unaware of at the moment). Here's the cover pic of my (maybe) upcoming eBook, https://www.flickr.com/photos/123333225@N06/16476271822/. That cataract surgery had a good ending, one where I actually go ...

Re: blog: grinding halt

The worst start-up offender is always going to be some pseudo-clever AV/Firewall "heuristic" routine that was programmed by the above spotty teenager, if not the Orc itself. Kaspersky, Comodo, Malewarebytes, et al are guilty of this sort of thing, and so proud of it that they convince the...

Re: Painless Custom Toolbars (No Morphine/Tourniquets Requir

Wait til you see me eviscerate Ms. Munn THIS coming annum!! She's cute. And most people profess to like working with her. But damn, if I can rag on Stephen Amell for the acting range of a pumpkin, then she gets rolled under the bus with the other tire. And yes, she ALMOST had me with the brilliant f...

Re: Painless Custom Toolbars (No Morphine/Tourniquets Requir

Having been a little out of sorts of late, and a little discombobulated by a couple of surgeons who have opted against gutting me like a fish to fix a pair of wrongness things with me, claiming multiple organ failure as being a bad indicator of success, I have been lax monitoring this forum. Indeed ...

Re: ebooks anyone?

PJ, I grew up typing on an Olivetti antique typewriter (a roughly 100 wpm rate) before discovering the Scelectric the year before I gave up journalism (and for awhile, being a PR guy--OH the shame) for computer consulting and programming. Up until then I had had a low serial number Apple ]{. We won'...

Re: ebooks anyone?

The screen pic shows DARK GREEN title caption bars rather than lime green, a preference of my hardware guy. And I didn't even notice he'd swapped themes with me. And, to be honest, I do go BACK to the default aero Win7 themes when programming ... because that's what I'm programming against most of t...

Re: ebooks anyone?

Nikos, Count me amongst those that are, in fact, still using XP themes. My own preference is for solid lime green caption bars for the active window and solid red bars for inactive windows against a field of grass green ... you know the colour nature thinks is the easiest on the eyes. And, since I h...

Re: ebooks anyone?

Whatever works for you works for you. Some of the rest of us are unfortunately lesser-abled mentally or have a few more things of a few more types of a few more years in the collecting. I prefer simple tools like Calibre and multiple multi-terabyte drives. But that's just me. Hey, they went to the m...

Re: ebooks anyone?

I had occasion to have an appraiser in to look at my media library for will purposes. There are a LOT of magazines and A LOT (what would be the magnum vs jeroboam version of A LOT vs A LOT A LOT) of comics. The numbers, which actually has stopped growing, came to 7782 magazines and 81760 comic books...

Re: ebooks anyone?

Hmmm, trolling for reactions. Calibre is written in python and anybody who habitually produces fairly extensive updates EVERY FRIDAY for most of five years (yes, I'm aware he's missed SEVEN Fridays in that span to do things like get married, move from one continent to another, be there for the birth...

... Thus, I BELIEVE I WAS explicit in my dreams and desires and wanton lust for a solution. But I was obviously wrong... Gary, I've been following this topic with askewed interest into what devilish creation K will come up for another obscure function, and I must say I understood what you requested...

Re: So, HERE's a way for Nikos to spend his copious free tim

Everybody's a critic of my pop-culture quotes this week - ah well. Nikos wouldn't pay attention to such things anyway, he only perks up when I use words like tyrannodidaskalos to describe him. :D He gets a kick out of that. I believe you have access to my details I am neither moderator nor ...

Re: So, HERE's a way for Nikos to spend his copious free tim

(It's funny how even a thousand miles away I can still hear Nikos sniggering quietly to himself with a self-satisfied gleam in his eye. Since this is my week for mainstream references, as Han Solo said: "Laugh it up, fuzzball".) Never give away extra information when wanting somebo...

Re: So, HERE's a way for Nikos to spend his copious free tim

Ok, x2Filter_Beta2 is up, so try this one when you're ready. Ignore, for the moment, the results reported in the x2 status bar, the counters are all wrong since orphans screw everything up, as is the way with orphans - Fagin deserves our pity, not our scorn. Anyway, harmless for now. I should note ...

Re: So, HERE's a way for Nikos to spend his copious free tim

you can trust kilmatead for an overengineered solution any day of the week... beer money to him then  I WOULD BE WILLING TO PAY FOR THIS. Not a helluva lot. But pay, I would. As a non-drinker of the Gods' mead, I'd rather fund water in Africa or even a bit of a school. But I'm dealing with ...
