i think the default behaviour makes sense, even if that e-word program does the same :)

at any rate, there are visual cues, i.e. the mouse cursor gets the + overlay when copying, arror for shortcuts etc. So you get ample warning. For ultimate safety you can always drag with the right button

there are such language-neutral "codes" but for regular filesystem folders. Control panel isn't one of them, unfortunately. But I think your idea about minimum acceptable width is good, so I'll see how it can be incorporated

If you haven't noticed by now, I'm a genuine slacker and don't like wasting any more keystrokes than necessary. Giving the up arrow for every column is convenience for the programmer. If you get the desired functionality what does it matter whether the arrow is sideways, as long as it is consistentl...

dates "ascending into the past" is what i like to call it :) it is dealt the aussie way, you know, christmas in summer and all :D do you really want to have the ascending in the windows sense? then to get the most recent files you'd have to click twice on the column header. I don't underst...

excuse me, but these are all conventions
if you had a column that listed, say, thumbnails, what would be the up/down order for? Whatever you care to assign for it. Likewise for dates. I rest my case!

x2 is heavily customizable through registry options
this includes a path for external editor; see alpha.txt for more info
there's also an option that controls how zipfolders are sorted too!

this is by design since more often than not one is interested in the newer files

BTW, the new toolbar buttons may look better in flat style mode (for pre-XP windows). To have flat toolbars just set bShowToolbar in mainframe settings to 3. I don't think this is mentioned in alpha.txt

oh no! I'm becoming fashion conscious! :)

well you can also directly play stuff from x2's zipfolders, as well as preview thumbnails, the full works

the tool menu you are after is already available -- minus the drag-drop
just use the command history <Ctrl+F10> to launch whatever you want, with optional $ tokens for arguments

that would be a good start, as would be recommending them a couple of books on shell integration. :)

Basically they need to expose either IShellFolder2 or IShellDetails so that other programs can browse their namespace

this is a really sad sample of shell programming
not only they specify the attributes wrong, they also don't expose any of the "interfaces" that are meant for column processing. That's why x2 gives up. Perhaps you should drop this on these people's door and request improvements!

could do
however, a few freakish long names here and there and you'd be chasing the right edge of the window... on the monitor next desk on the right!
