Re: deskrule 1106 beta

Dunno, While you are correct that IQ is not an indication of real world intelligence, my inclusion of some of my accomplishments in MY real world where I solved real problems in unique ways IS an indication of intelligence. So you don't like it when I "brag" about my successes and you don'...

Re: deskrule 1106 beta

Dunno, That code the hackers wrote is NOT multithreaded. Multithreading is not a wonderful miracle of modern PC's. It is a useful feature when running multiple, independent programs on the same computer. Most applications cannot benefit from multithreading - it is not the programmers or the OS that ...

Re: deskrule 1106 beta

Dunno, As Kilmatead pointed out, the issues with multithreaded apps is not all the software. First it is the OS. The OS needs to be able to assign different tasks to different cores. That is fine if you are running 4 separate programs - the OS can assign each to its own core. But as K said, there is...

Re: deskrule 1106 beta

Kilmatead, Yes, C is one of the lowest level "high level" languages available. But it cannot do what a creative programmer can do. I wrote the BIOS for a computer (while at Univac). I had 512 bytes to work with (this was the first Univac system that used bytes instead of word of various le...

Re: deskrule 1106 beta

RightPaddock, thanks for your contributions. I LIKE your expression - it definitely meshes well with my philosophies. I used both the PDP-8 and the PDP-11 - the latter being a wonderful machine. I wrote some great software on the PDP-11 and was sorry when I had to move on. That was the last mini-com...

Re: deskrule 1106 beta

Kilmatead, Mentioning C and “a real language” in the same sentence suggests a lack of programming prowess. There is only ONE “real” language and that is machine code (assembler). Any high level language (and that is what C is) cannot be termed a “real” language. Sure, programming snobs may look down...

Re: deskrule 1106 beta

I would love to watch you edit text written on a stone tablet! Even changing text on paper is far from simple. I am NOT saying WYSIWYG is a bad thing. But I AM saying it makes it possible for the intellectually inferior to participate in the computer phenomenon. I will not got started about all the ...

Re: deskrule 1106 beta

Kilmatead, Having taken a typing class in high school, I could type with all 10 fingers by the time I discovered computers. But I did have many colleagues who, like you, used fewer digits than God supplied. And, like you, their speed was amazing. It mirrored the competition on early minicomputers be...

Re: deskrule 1106 beta

Kilmatead, While you did say "text editor" and technically WordStar is a word processor - one of the first and arguably THE best of breed in either category, WordStar did NOT use F3. Back in the day when the intelligence required to use a computer resided on the human side, unlike today wh...

Re: how to sort

Other file managers provide that sort option, I am sure Nikos has the talent to provide it as well. The only question is whether he has the time and desire to make the changes needed. Possibly there are higher priority features that he thinks deserve his attention before this one.

Re: browse compressed archives - now final!

I am not good with some acronyms. LOL, I get, PM is meaningless to me (though I now understand it means private message).

I agree this has become a pointless debate. So consider it over. Nice picture, BTW (another acronym I know).

Re: browse compressed archives - now final!

I actually acknowledged that there IS a fine difference between emotions and feelings. And even included a link to an article about the topic. What I don't agree with (and DO believe I am right about) is that you seem to not grasp the difference between feelings/emotions (which are internal) and act...

Re: browse compressed archives - now final!

I have tried to explain this, twice. Apparently I have not done a good job. I will make one more attempt at it. I used the term "emotionally ugly" to differentiate my point from a physically ugly person. Of course what is ugly? One person's ugly is another person's beautiful. So the term i...

Re: What does “fast search” in xplorer² Ultimate mean

Thank you for your support and tolerance. I can promise that I will remain civil. I respect people (though I don't suffer fools gladly) and treat them with respect (even if I don't know them). Unlike trust, which I not give freely - it must be earned, I start out respecting a person until such time ...
