I have to go back the locking the browsed folder (which is not a problem for me) because I execute many scripts and executable extensions by double-clicking and assume the active folder is the current folder. Since running with lock browsed folder does not bother me I can't justify requesting that y...

I see what the problem is, you are double clicking on the batch file in C:\backups aren't you? I get the same error when I put the batch file in the same folder as rar.exe and double-click it. This seems like a bug. When you double-click on an executable with don't lock folder enabled the current wo...

You are correct. My point is that if you are getting the rar.exe is not recognized error you are not running the script from the C:\backups folder. For that script it makes more sense to have the C: cd C:\backups commands at the beginning since you always what this script to run in that folder. The ...

If you change the preamble to

"cmd.exe /c "

the command prompt exits automatically even without adding the exit to scripts.

But will this cause problems for the x2 console?

It seems that rar.exe is in the C:\backups folder and this folder is not in your path so you have to cd there or use the full path-name for rar.exe.

This is not the same as cding into the current path which is what was fixed.

Hmm... my point is that if you end the batch/script file with an exit the command prompt will close when you run the script from x2's address/command bar. If you do not have an exit command the script will complete but the command prompt window will remain open. This does not apply if you are redire...

no it won't :)
It will exit if you are not using x2's console. This is one of the several reasons that I do not use it.

close command prompt

Just add an exit after the :end label and the script will close the command prompt when it ends.

Edit: I changed the topic subject since we got split off the original thread.

I wonder if the new x2 is doing something for NTFS that has to time out for FAT. It would be interesting to see if this delay affects XP systems with FAT filesystems also.

Is there a way to specify another editor for the configure menu entry to use?

Ah, well... I was hoping that setting addressed one of my continuing annoyances with x2: renaming folders with dots in their names.

What is the deal with

GIOPT_DIREXTENSIONS 16384 /* enables filename "extensions" for folders (past the dot) */

Enabled or not a folder with a dot still thinks it has an extension when you to rename it.

Ok, that did it. I'll check out the settings editor. Is the settings editor updating the registry immediately after you click on a check box or does it wait until you press apply? I guess it waits... but it did annoy Outpost Firewall the first time I clicked in a checkbox. When I pressed apply I got...
