Topic: preserve directory timestamps on target?

I've been doing a little experimenting.  By default at least, xplorer2 didn't preserve any of the directory timestamps (Created, Modified, Accessed). XXCOPY preserves Modified by default and can be instructed to preserve Created and Accessed - as follows. /TTA  Touches (modifies) timestamp of Last A...

preserve directory timestamps on target?

Is there a way to copy folders and files from one drive to another and keep the source folder timestamps ("modified" time) on the target drive?

I'm sure this has been asked and answered, but I wasn't able to dig it up with my searches.  TIA.

That raises interesting possibilities.  If you don't like the way xplorer2 is handling a particular file type in the Normal Quick View pane, find another ActiveX control!  For viewing my TIFF images, I didn't much care for the QuickTime Plugin.  But I found a nice free alterna-tiff: http://www.alter...

QuickView Normal uses QuickTime to view TIFs

When I try to use view a TIF image file in Quick View, Normal preview, Apple QuickTime starts up.  I don't understand this, because I have TIF files associated with Irfanview, not Quicktime.  I'd rather not have Quicktime handle the Normal Quick View for TIF files. I've looked at Quicktime preferenc...

moving tabs to other pane

For moving a tab to the other pane, I know that Ctrl-Alt-Ins opens the tab in the other pane.  But mouse options would be nice as well.  Drag & Drop would be ideal. But, in lieu of that, you could (1) add "Open Tab in Other Pane" or "Move Tab to Other Pane" option when right-...

sort address bar drop-down history list?

(1)  It would be nice if there were a way to sort the list of paths in the address bar drop-down list.  I don't know what the order is now, but it would be a lot easier to find a recently-visited path if the paths could be made alphabetical.  I have the drop-down list set to the maximum 100. (2)  St...

Do you really mean HKEY_CURRENT_USER here or HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT?
Sorry, my mistake - HKCR\*, not HKCU\*

this all worked very well

I did these registry tweaks. I put the "open with xplorer2" context menu option under * instead of just "Directory". I also made a bSingleWindow registry value with the value data "2". This way I can right-click on a file in Locate32, click "open in xplorer2",...

huge number of files - faster if zipped?

I have folders containing thousands of files (EML files extracted from Outlook Express DBX files).   I tried NTFS compression, and as you may remember, I learned that NTFS compression does no good with files under 4K.  I converted all of these folders to ZIP files using MyZippa.  I achieved a great ...

The only way to beat the cluster size minimum is to put the small files together in a bundling file such as .zip or .arj,  etc.   Then the cluster size applies only once to the whole bundle. ... & zip files are especially good on XP, where they are treated as virtual folders without need of a s...

NTFSRatio reports less than that for some files then whatever this is, it's telling you porkies! there's no point compressing really small files since each file will require at least the minimum sector size. We're talking about native ntfs compression, right? I'm thinking you're right on this ... i...

(1) this list is history related, more recent paths are near the top. Don't forget there's a quick way to fetch any path stored in the history list: type a few characters (from anywhere in the path not just the beginning) and hit up arrow Thanks ... An excellent tip which I will use a lot ... I wil...

suggestions - drag and drop etc.

(1) an option to alphabetize the folders listed in the Address box drop-down list. Sometimes I think the best, least-confusing way to run xplorer2 is use two panes, no tabs, and use the Address box to navigate to the desired folder.  Having the folders alphabetized in this list would make it possibl...
