Re: Move user 'editable' files from install to appdata

the installer does not remove old skins or details pane files. If you run the uninstaller first that's your fault :) another obvious proviso is that you should reinstall on the same folder Felling a little choleric today, Nikos? :) Really, I have been an active forum member long enough, I would hav...

Re: Move user 'editable' files from install to appdata

if you use the same folder for upgrading then all your user files skins etc won't be affected. Sorry, but this is contrary to my experience. Upgrading x2 always wipes user files and skins. I backup the files I need before I upgrade, and copy them back afterwards. +1 to RightPaddock; but Kilmatead m...

Re: blog: how to send fax

"Living in the past" was just my playful way of referring to "old" technologies. Or perhaps I should say technologies that some people consider old. Most people nowadays use web-based email, and think desktop clients old-fashioned. I'm not making any value judgments as to whether...

Re: blog: how to send fax

Is this living in the past month at the forum? :) Last week's post was "How to use a desktop email client"; this week's is "How to send a fax". At least next week's lessons in penmanship will help to beautify the world a bit. :D But seriously, I've had to deal with some governmen...

Re: Copy file contents with Unicode support

The Powershell Community Extensions contain the cmdlets Get-Clipboard and Out-Clipboard. Out-Clipboard may be what you need.

Re: Run command on Python?

Sure. You can find full details in the User Manual beginning on page 239 (version 2.1.0-1), or under "User Commands" in the Quick Start Guide. Basically, you want to set up a user command something like this: $$ "C:\Path\To\Directory\script.py" "$N" $N is a token repres...

Re: How to turn off filter/select bar - it's stealing focus!

To be fair, the filterbox is actually quite useful and rather good at its job... For my money, x2 has real filters which are far more useful and versatile than the filterbox. I'm on board with you regarding the advantages of searching for terms within a filename, I just think that x2's visual filte...

Re: How to turn off filter/select bar - it's stealing focus!

It's called the filter box, and a lot of us have turned it off for exactly the reasons you're describing. To turn it off, go to the Layout Settings tab in the xplorer2 advanced settings editor. (Make sure x2 is closed when you're using the settings editor.) Scroll down to "Incremental search au...

Yes, the address bar breaks the cycle of TABS, but you can ESC out of the address bar back into the active pane.

I do think that returning focus to the pane when the filter results in naught entries is a little weird - that sort of forces an unnecessary double <Ctrl+J> - and what's really weird is that <Ctrl+J> does not work from within the filterbox itself (if the user changes his mind midway through typing)...

If you compare it to existing methods, e.g. going in the addressbar to change a wildcard filter (or a dialog), you also have to do "something" to get out of these. Yes, but the difference is that if I have summoned a filter dialog, then one keypress/mouse click not only dismisses the dial...

I voted no because I'm already getting tired of jumping back to the active pane from the filterbar. I type four or five characters, the filter I want is applied, and oh, look, focus has switched to the filterbar. Now I have to go back to the active pane to work with the filter I've just set. Perhaps...

Okay. Other than that, I've been using the beta since it was released, and it seems solid.

In addition to the methods kilmatead described above, the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+Alt+NumPadPlus will select all files with the same extension as the currently selected file.
