the idea with x2 is to collaborate with the system rather than replace it altogether. I personally like the taskbar-cum-quicklaunch bar, especially in autohide mode. Only things that definitely suck (aka explorer) need to be replaced!

a separate extension column already exists in xplorer2 (2x is not developed any more)

there's no way to customize the toolbar; i guess your only option is to turn it off completely, leaving just the address bar

ok, i'll add a shortcut for this in xplorer2
in the meantime, you can make the name column quite large so that it fits the "worst case" filenames

in detailed mode, if you double-click on the divider line (up in the header row) you'll auto-fit the column

i had thought about automatic fitting without user intervention but that would play havoc when freak long file names exist

layouts are created (saved rather) in a similar fashion to bookmarks the View | Layouts menu describes the process (which keys you have to press) in the grayed menu item text press [Ctrl+Shift+ NUMBER ] where NUMBER is from 7-9 to save the current layout -- that means you have to arrange the toolbar...

we're setting our own usability standards here :)
anyway i can't see the advantage of a ".." thing, keyboard or mouse-wise. The title bar is a larger target and you don't need to scroll to the top of the list to get up a level. It makes sense to me!

Topic: multiple stream files supported?

thanks for that
there are documented ways to access streams, too
the question is how can stream management be incorporated in x2
i was thinking of a simple column with total stream size
but perhaps commands to view/modify specific stream contents would be more useful

any ideas welcome

if you use date synchronization with F9 you only select newer files, no worries. If you want to copy a subset of these, just prune out what you don't want. Sticky selection mode may be helpful. Also "within current selection only" check box in the Unselect files dialog is useful in this si...

if you always start from the same folders, you can use the command line to specify their names (create 3 shortcuts and provide 3 different sets of folders). If you want 2x to remember any arbitrary state you left each of the 3 program instances, then use the /S command line option to assign them dif...

they become active as you set bookmarks using the available slots. As the menu item text and status bar description suggest, you need to press all at the same time [Ctrl+Shift+ number ] where number is in the range 0-5 to set bookmarks at the current active folder. Use the same procedure to overwrit...

2x can't help you with spaces you'd have to create & save a basic batch file and then paste it into a text editor that allows search & replace the future is better in xplorer2 since you'll be able to tell batch files to use the short 8.3 names that don't contain spaces. But perhaps that won'...

this is by design, remembering settings in relevant sections of the program
for example, a killer feature for <Ctrl+G> grep is that the text searched for is carried through to the editor, so you can open files and press F3 to go to the said text directly

this is not too hard to implement, but especially now that xplorer² supports multiple windows in the same process, the tray area is definitely not suitable!
