in XP you get infotips even when you are browsing with the keyboard. I think I saw a related KB article about a problem with explorer and large video files. I can add a size limit for infotips (rather silly) or you can disable them altogether like I explained in a different thread

you must be inadvertently pressing the shortcuts that toggle sorting mode, eg Ctrl+Alt+T

brad, some of the folders must have been calculated after you did the sorting command. Since sizes are calculated in the background there's no easy way to tell when all have finished

i thought the tip about using 2xExplorer's value, where you can select such things with the GUI would be helpful anyway, get in regedit after quitting x2 and deduct the value 1024 (make sure you work in decimal) from whatever value you have in lvsExtendedStyle. but really "advanced" users can hack the registry easy
it is the not-so-advanced that can do more harm than good and need to be presented with only the basic stuff

such caching would only be considered in a situation like 2x's Ctrl+D command. So the x2 equivalent could have an autorefresh mechanizm so as to sense any changes you make while it is being shown. (Not easy though!)
