I am not a power user and have found that my ancient version 1.8.1.4 which I have a license for has served me well for many years. If I down load a new trial version will that over write or interfere with my licensed version. I like what I have but I would also like to see if a newer version will benefit me. I jst looked at my join date...2007, time flies I guess.

first take a backup of your settings as explained here
then install the latest version in a separate folder, protecting your old version
