I have problems when I try to paste a file which name starts with a dot
what problems will those be? I don't have any problem copying or pasting such files (e.g. ".pipa" )

It is true that windows and 2x won't let you rename a file into something that is just extension, but you can cheat using the DOS <b>ren</b> command instead which will do for you whatever you like. A command like <b>"&#36 ren yourfile.txt .whatever"</b> will work fine from 2x's address bar

Big thanks for a superb product.

Just a little thing - if you drag and drop to the current folder (by accident) can the drop cursor become an invalid drop and ignore the request - as per dragging to the title bar. This avoids the popup "cannot copy to the current folder, etc, blah, blah".

Or...maybe I should just watch what I'm doing .

First of all let me also say that your program is AWESOME! Now the request I have concerns the number of views, currently you have one tree and 2 file windows, how about you change the name of the program to 4x Explorer and allow 4 file windows the same as the 2 you already have to be docked under the two existing ones, or use 3 side by side and not use one, or whatever combonation of the 4 availablel windows you wanted....

oh one more thing do you think F5 could be made to be refresh instead of ctrl-R?

4 windows is no problem, but how are you going to manage them? For example, if you want to synchronize the contents of two windows, how would you pick the two? How would you pick a target for "Copy To" commands? Too much complication there... You can have a second instance of 2xExplorer running if you need more windows.

you could use resource hacker for this; some familiarity with resource editing will be necessary

Hello Nikos,

How about  a menu item to launch a new instance instead?

Also, support for true color or 256 colors in the drive bar would be nice.

Oh, and maybe a command line switch to launch the find tool? :)

<i> > menu item to launch a new instance instead?</i>

that's coming (i think) in the next version, more or less the way explorer does it

<i> > command line switch to launch the find tool? </i>

how would that work then? (and why?)

Just used again a little Freeware-Tool called emptybin (24 k) since I don't like going through the Windows trash-bin to delete the "saved" deleted items (well, I'm using Shift-Del most the time anyway).

How about a little utility like that in the tools menue of 2xExplorer? No fuzz, just one click and trash-bin is cleaned?

Nothing important though.

emptying the trash can is easy:
either in 2x or on your desktop, right-click and pick "Empty", surely this is no big trouble? :)

this gives me another idea...
I still uses winfile to browse recycled, temporary internet files and all strange folders.
could you add a trigger to switch explorer/winfile behavior type.

to explain what i mean: open a dos console, copy c:\toto c:\recycled
then browse recycled with both explorer (or 2x) and winfile (win9x: c:\windows\system\winfile.exe  winnt: c:\winnt\system32\winfile.exe)
... !!!

So I could create a shortcut with the "-find" switch and have the 2x find tool launch automatically.

The reason I ask, is b\c I use Litestep as my shell and the explorer find tool doesn't work that well with it. I've found myself using the 2x find alot and would like easier(quicker) access. (Not that it's that hard now, but...) :)

Let me add one more "wish" to the list: the ability to see attributes (archive in particular) without going through the properties window.

Great program!
