what do you think of samsung?
For the first time since I was in high school i'm going to have to buy my own computer (with my own cash  :) ) so i'm trying to get a good deal for my money. I like this one that's small and good value for money (looks like a dog but who cares?)

has anyone ever had a samsung laptop? How are they for reliability? How's their customer service for faults under warranty?
thanks

No experience with Samsung. But if you are looking for notebooks, the following site gives you lots of information, although it tends to focus on newer, relatively high-end models.

You will hate the 12" screen after a very short while.
You can get much better by not digging around the low end.
Just do a bit of research and do not jump for the weekly "specials"
(They are "special" for good reason.)
Go for quality as much as economy.
I generally do my purchasing research with ...

and PC magazine

why sir, are you calling me cheap? :PYou can get much better by not digging around the low end
no in fact there is much room to go much cheaper if i wanted, but this is the latest kit, 64 bit compatible and the small screen goes with the ultra portable size (1.8kg! ). Although I would prefered 13 inch monitor, since my eyes are not what they used to be
I can't say much for Samsung laptops, but I *can* say that a user advised me that he had had no issues with Samsung HDs, particularly SATA II drives....
I have ordered the parts for my new machine, and will be assembling it soon....first real new machine I have built for myself in 6 years....all parts (with the exception of my 3rd HD and my DVD burner) are brand spanking new....and I am spending my entire income tax refund on this machine.

that's a nice starting point
