Lol - I have it DL'd and am tempted to try it out on Win7x86-64 - but there is a small rant going on about how, for once, Windows needs very little in the way of 3rd party apps to actually look good....

And I agree.  Still, though, this seemingly 3D app may make me look at Windows in a whole new way.

I haven't used the desktop to pile up things at all- Except for some default shortcuts it is always bare.

The reason is that I never look at Desktop:  My wide-ranging file-collection is organized in deep folder hierarchies. So usually x2 is the screen I look at, with multiple SETs of folders set to show me different parts of my interest. I access them directly using "folder groups" shortcuts. Then I can launch different files; each taking a few days to read.

Or else I launch different applications from the Quick launch toolbar. (These are usually to CREATE new files.)

I cannot think of a scenario when I will be making a fruitful use of desktop.
Am I missing something?

obviously your desktop doesn't look like this, you robot! :)

i'm not saying that this alternative will have any effect on my organizational skills or if it's going to be even easier to use, but it's a smart idea -- if it works at all

KACK!! I nearly vomited!

That's like wanting to pile up clothes on the table, and then looking for a product that helps in this artificial situation.

Why not opt for wardrobes and chests in the first place, which are designed for that very purpose?  :)

double-KAACK!

.. and I sometimes call the way I pile things on *my* desk
"the hemorrhoid fling system: everything is in PILES"

You know, there's a perfectly good file manager out there,
published by ZabKat, which can be used to great effect to ease that situation;
but IFF* you read and follow the guidelines in the accompanying User Manual.

*IFF = If, and only if.

And a busy guy is so because he is forever looking for that one file that's missing somehow!

What about searching in that pile, eh?

@ a tidy desk ... -
I confess to being somewhat of a pot calling the kettle black.
Although my virtual desktop isn't half as cluttered as my real one.

& as for ... a guy with too much free time.
I'm clearly guilty on that count, too.

Heh, there's literally no icons on my desktop... It's X2 Lite for me all the way ;) (Plus shortcuts).
