Modifying the right click menu

On my left pane in 2X, the "rename" option has disappeared from the right click menu. I still have it for the right panes. Therefore, I cannot use 2X to rename folders.

I spent hours looking for a solution. All of them pointed to editing the registry. However, I cannot find any registry entries under Shell or ShellExt for 2X.

Does anybody know how to do this? I also have useless options in the menu like "Scan with AVG" and "Play in Winamp" that I would like to get rid of.

BTW, the rename option is still there for Windows Explorer.

you can't rename folders directly from 2x's tree
you have to force a folder to a regular view (browse it) and rename it from there

the new xplorer2 allows direct renaming while in the tree

the context menu for folders is system-wide
programs you install add entries
to remove them, either uninstall unwanted programs or edit the registry to remove unwanted verbs (tricky)

:D

I had the same question/issue, but it can be done like this.

I can rename folders in the directory tree frame in 2xExplorer like this:
1. right click on the folder to be renamed (it does not matter if the folder is shown in either of the left/right panes)
2. bring up the context menu
3. get to Properties for the folder
4. change the name which is presented to you
5. press enter/click ok.

I found it by luck/trial & error.

Because not everyone is aware of the behaviour of 2X or X2 like you are, Zippit!

Why do you have problems with someone asking the obvious. Even you have been a beginner at some time, is it not?

See my signature for the line that says it all ;)

And to be more specific: I think the problem was that the rename was attempted in the folder treeview, which is impossible in 2X, but is possible in X2 !!

And we might add- Dumb answers are those that question the question/questioner!

Let's not get too judgemental.
Questioning a questioner can still be a valid question -- especially when done for clarification.
And we ALL have communication problems, writing as we do from our own experience base/point of view. The marvel to me is that we don't have more clashes when sore points are hit -- and the knee-jerk reaction is to question the questioner's intelligence. Fortunately we usually suppress this kind of reponse and that keeps this board a civil society.

So here's a big THANK YOU to all who participate - warts & all. :D
