I disagree. But, then again, what else is new

An answer is always in a certain context. That's why it is called a thread :)
questions/answers/remarks which belong to the same thread are related.

This also holds true for my remark, but for clarity sake:
zippit three messages ago wrote:I don't think this is a 2x or x2 operation,but a seperate utility
I do think it is an 2X or X2 operation.

I don't have 2xE installed right now,but with all due respect to nikos i think there might be a better way for that particular operation.
It's called wherisit.

If this thread is still about my original question as to whether there was a way 2X could create a file that contained the names of all files or selected files within a directory, then I will say that this is a 2X operation and it does the job very nicely and with min effort.

I looked at WhereIsIt and I could not see how it actually applies to my question, unless I am missing something. If I am could someone explain it to me?

Please don't think you upset the apple cart. I appreciate any additional enlitement I can get from anyone.

jmw, what zippit pointed at is actually a different class of utility known as "catalogers" (also known as "Offline CD Browsers"). They create a catalog of any removable drive (CDs, ZipDrives, Floppies, even remote hard disks, etc).

A "catalog" is a virtual directory of the scanned removable disks. These virstual directories can be browsed even after the removable media is taken off.

So, for example, if you have a collection of 50 CDs, 5 zipdrives, etc.. You will be able to search for any article on them, without needing to insert these CDs and zipdrives in their respective drives.

When you have located your article, then the cataloger will prompt you to insert that particular removable media in your drive. When you insert the media, it will open the file, using the associated application.

It saves a lot of trouble.

Zippit pointed to a shareware. Here is a freeware that is as good: http://cdoffline.webz.cz/eng/index.html

BTW the Offline CD Browser feature is in pipeline for Xplorer2, which the successor to 2xExplorer. You can pick up alpha versions of x2 from the website.

*****
BTW, there's no need to go all the way to Afghanistan to blow out your brains. Zippit does it right here, for free!
