2x explorer very slow when using CoolerXP

Post by duckjibe »

Hello

I'm tring 2xExplorer It is nice but very slow.
When I select ( even empty ) directory , it takes about 2 sec
to display the contents of the directory.

I found that this was happening because I'm using CollerXP.

This is a sofware from MSI that halts the CPU when it has nothing to do.
The advange is power consuption & that the CPU stays at very low temperatures.

I never feel that CollerXP is running. It does not slow down my system.
( except for games ) .

2xExplorer is the first software that has this behaviour.

Maybe it is because that it has a very low priority thread .

I tried to set 2xEplorer as a high priority task but it does not change
anything

Is there something to do to make it faster .
Of course I want to Keep CollerXP

Thanks

Does this come with Windows XP.your MBD or a 3rd party software ?
Frankly why are you so concerned about this kind of control.I never heard of it till now but don't even care to try it,If it messes up games, for sure.
Otherwise you'll probably have to have a slower 2x.unless nikos has a sollution.

I think this must happen whenever there is an idle task running on the PC.

SETI@Home also use idle task so that you do no feel that it is running.
It takes CPU only when the other apps does not.

I have SETI@Home and run it once in a while. Why do you feel it has to always be active ?
I have Wme and use
C:\WINDOWS\RSRCMTR.EXE to examine and control my system.right now it's
86,86,91%.
At startup i get mid to high 90's.

Yes, I've also noticed that 2xExplorer is unusually "meek" when other apps are running.

I use 2x most often for searches. (As you know, its Search feature is several times faster than Windows's.) However, if any moderately CPU-intensive (but not necessarily disk-intensive) apps are running, 2x backs off and runs very slowly. I have a relatively fast system, too, over 2 GHz.

I've tried manually raising 2x's priority in WinXP's Task Manager, but it doesn't help. If I want to search, I must close other active apps.

I assumed this was something Nikos programmed intentionally, to avoid conflicts. (In the UNIX world, it's called making a program "nice"---non-competitive.) Or maybe it's just a quirk of the programming method he uses...?

the search thread in 2x runs in a reduced CPU priority (so as to avoid interfering with the main 2x program). When other intensive normal priority processes execute, Find suffers

a workaround would be to raise the priority of 2x using Task Manager (in NT/2k/XP)

It only works if 2x explorer is set as 'Real Time"
And We have to do it every time we lauch 2xEplorer.

The problem is that if you lauch a big search when
if 2x explorer is set as 'Real Time" you PC is amost stuck until
the search is finished

Could it it possible to increase a little the priority of the search task.
I think it must be too low today
