Viewing Zip Folders

Post by konradhee »

Hi, I can double-click on my zip files and see the contents. This is great! However, I would like to set my home computer to be able to do the same. Unfortunately, it cannot do so, and I was not aware of what I did to enable this function. Can anyone help? Thank you!!!

Hmmm, Well, besides Windows XP, I am not sure what else you might need to know. Please let me know.

some older OS's do not have the ability to open zip-files by themselves (without win-zip, or other unzipping app.)

For XP, you should find settings in control panel for folder options where you can specify whether to treat zip-files as folders or not.

Detailed instruction

Post by Stirlitz »

You need to get the following files and copy them to c:\windows\system32:

DZIP32.DLL
DUNZIP32.DLL
DUNZIP.DLLDZIP.DLL
ZIPFLDR.DLL

Download the files or search for them using www.alltheweb.com .

Then press Start (Win) -> Run -> type C:\> regsvr32.exe c:\windows\system32\zipfldr.dll -> Enter

and get the message: DllRegisterServer in [path]\zipfldr.dll succeeded. That should be enough.
