Hi, my name's Chris, I'm from Poland and I'm a 2xExplorer-holic... :-)

But seriously: I've noticed an interesting thing when it comes to the information displayed by 2xExplorer. I've got a folder which contains over 1000 .bmp files, with average size of 4MB per file (they're scanned colour pictures). It's easy to count that the size of this folder should be around 4 gigabytes - and it is, but 2xExplorer doesn't show this properly. No matter what I do - take a look on the status bar or use the Ctrl+D shortcut - I get the info that the folder's size is 280 megabytes. What's even more interesting, on another partition there are also over 1000 .bmp files (this time black-and-white pics), and 2xExplorer gives the folder's size correctly - they're over 3GB. What's wrong - either with the app or my system (which is WinMe, btw)?

And while we're at it: whenever I use the Ctrl+D shortcut to check a folder/disk's size, the title bar of the pop-up window tells me that I have 1.9GB of free space on a given partition. The problem is, each of my partitions is over 5 gigabytes (well, one is 5 and the other two 7GB each) and has more than 2.5 giga free. So what's wrong again? ;^)

Any help will be appreciated!

Hi Chris and welcome to the forum.

I have a computer with ME and when I use Ctrl+D, I get the exact same thing (disk free space 1.9GB) on the pop-up window. It must be a bug. However, the rest of the information in the window seems correct. Also, on the lower right hand corner of the main 2X window, it displays the correct amount of disk space. I checked with windows explorer and got the same thing.

I do not know why you are having a problem with the file size for bitmaps.  I get the correct information in the window and status bar.

(love the cartman avatar :) )

2x has problems with large numbers arithmetic (still stuck at third grade, see? ;) ) It just can't count above 4GB, the limit that would fit in 4 bytes (= 2^31 - 1). Weak!

The only exception is the free space shown on the status bar, which is done correctly using __int64 arithmetic. All other aspects, including Ctrl+D command will only show correctly data below 4GB

All that will be fixed in the next version

hey folks!

thanks a lot for your quick replies! they're highly appreciated. :-) so, as i supposed, it's a more-than-4GB problem. i can live with that, because i've just read a wonderful line from Nikos himself: "All that will be fixed in the next version." which means: there'll be next version of this wonderful application! sweet, dude! ;^)

btw, Nikos... i've always meant to write you and confess how much i love the program you wrote... just was too shy to do so. :-) besides, i've no intention to spoil you! :-)

but seriously - i'm really impressed with 2xExplorer. you've been doing great and very useful job, mate!

take care you all.
