x2: Save settings now!

Post by boonkui »

Hi nikos,

Firstly, thanks for the new sorting feature of 0.35 8)

This is not a bug report but a suggestion to improve the usability slightly based on my personal and subjective experience.

I find that my "View - Save settings" option is always unchecked since I wish to start in the same state (in my folder of shortcuts) whenever a new x2 window is launched. Whenever I need to change any setting permanently, e.g. pane style, I would need to perform the following steps:
- change the setting
- check "View - Save settings"
- close x2
- launch x2
- uncheck "View - Save settings"
- close x2
- launch x2 (and continue with work...)

Imagine that x2 has a convenient "View - Save settings now" feature that is not an option but an action, the steps would be very much simplified:
- change the setting
- select "View - Save settings now"

Hope this helps

such a command is planned
however, why do you want to have auto-save @ the end disabled?
if it is just starting at some specific folders, you can use the command line options via a shortcut

Great to know that it's planned :)

It's not just the startup folder. In fact, I try to prevent the auto-save feature from saving my last pane style, selected columns, column sorting, etc. Hence, I have to keep it disabled all the time...
