I searched the archives and believe, as a result of what I found, that the sync command (F9) isn't a true sync in that when it compares folders it will take the newest file and overwrite the older versions instead of merging the two files...is this correct?
I am attempting to sync my favorites list on my laptop and desktop...both of which get randomly updated...
The Sync doesn't seem to provide what I want, nor does the briefcase functions in Win2kPro.
Am I correct?

Yes, that's correct. If you want to check line-by-line difference, try the freeware kdiff3 (it can actually compare 3 different files line-by-line and merge any of them! ) It's a opensource freeware from http://kdiff3.sourceforge.net/overwrite the older versions instead of merging the two files
BTW F9 is not for finding just the "newest" file-- check out CTRL+F9 for other options.
You can also try ExamDiff. It is freeware s/w that can check files for differences. The Pro version can check folders also, but you have to pay for that one.
