2 Editor² feature requests

Post by fgagnon »

Nikos,

I have come to really like Editor² and it is fast becoming my preferred text editor. It is a wonderful combination of most things I like in a text editor. However, two of the features which I use regularly in my favorite text editor that I would like to see included in Editor² are:

1. the ability to print the current 'selection'

This seems so obvious, I am surprised the feature is not there (or I have not yet discovered the paranormal path to it) :?

and

2. the ability to define and work with "column blocks" -- very useful when working with text arrays encountered in tables and often in the script-code routines I write for numerical analysis. (Monospace font highly recommended)
-- usual operations: cut/paste(insert)/paste(over)/fill/sort-lines-by/print.

However, I would understand that this latter feature may be specialised enough usage that you wouldn't want to tackle it for lack of ROiI [return on (intellectual) investment].

----------------

*** Keep up the great work ... your products are amazingly productive and (mostly) intuitive to use!! *** :D

{BTW - my favorite text editor is a SemWare product and has never been a m$ product as far back as I can remember (20+ years)}

as you said, #2 is out of bounds for ed2's scope
for #1 a little improvisation is called for, e.g. Ctrl+C, Ctrl+N, Ctrl+V & Ctrl+P should do it!

Another two misc-features maybe..

1) For those who switch toolbars off - WordWrap/Hex/other modes info on status bar

2) Settings / "Don't open files larger than x Kb" (especially helpful for accidents with xplorer's F3 and big (hex) files)

2) shouldn't be a problem since you can press ESC to cancel loading in ed2

btw, I just want to say thank you for this simple, yet seemingly obvious, feature.  I swear I need to make use of it almost daily...
