2xEditor keystroke problem

I use Editor2_UC on Windows2000 for a while, now I have installed
normal version of Editor2 on a Windows98 (second edition) PC.
I can't type any text in its window, if I start Editor2 without a file.
It's no F6-Problem.
I can insert for example the date (-> Edit -> Insert date) and
move the cursor within this string afterwarts. It's also possible,
to delete characters with the del- or rubbout key. It's also
possible to mark a substring and cut it, but paste will not work!
If I start Editor with a file, I can't add any characters, but if
I delete for example 10 characters anywhere in the file, I can
add 10 other characters to the file, but not more. I can place this
10 characters anywhere in the file!
Any idea, what the problem is?

if it's windows 98 it looks like a case for dodgy richedit control
