Re: xplorer2 v2.5 final released
xplorer2 cannot handle external passwords, only those passed with the ftp "path"
in general I don't recommend using FTP at all as it is not secure. Try something like winscp or this experimental one

This is working in Windows 7. The same version crashes in XP. So it's not a question of external passwords.nikos wrote:xplorer2 cannot handle external passwords, only those passed with the ftp "path"

In Windows 7 as in XP, it opens in WIndows Explorer. In Windows 7 it also opens in xplorer2. In XP it does not open in XP. It simply hangs and I have to terminate xplorer 2 via Task Manager.nikos wrote:in windows 7 it opens with windows explorer, doesn't it?

all I can say is that it doesn't crash for me in either win7 or xp. You can send me the crash information file and I'll see if I can think of something better

WinExp half does it ... sort of.Home blogger (on 13-Apr-2014) wrote:xplorer² can trap SHOpenFolderAndSelectItems calls and show the selection like windows explorer does it.
There are a lot of negative threads on various Windows (7/8) forums complaining about holding folder (in WinExplorer) scrolling down out of view ... a long way down.
xplorer2 is magnificent. Best outlay $$ I have made in years.
I particularly love
1. xplorer2 reopens to my last folder selections
2. bookmarks, I can reopen previous Explorer combinations ... love it
3. Custom commands as toolbar buttons.
Thank you

Re: xplorer2 v2.5 final released
I am currently using v2.4.0.1 ... must it be uninstalled before installing v2.5 ?
Will my settings etc be preserved ?
Are there any screenshots of v2.5 ?

You may safely install "over" your current installation. Your settings will be preserved, and there are no outstanding cosmetic changes in this update, so screenshots would be superfluous *.
Once installed, click Help -> What's New? to see the changelog, or just see this if you're impatient for mostly technical-stuff.
* That being said, due to the retro-revolution sweeping the world, nikos was thinking of switching to the chique and ever-so de rigueur "FAR manager look" for special holiday editions:

(Or, perhaps not - but hey, check out the rendering on that "shadow" from the popup

Speaking of retro-revolutions, how about this modern author using Wordstar 4 under a DOS to avoid spell-check intrusions (I seem to remember drop-shadows, in WS4, too):

Re: xplorer2 v2.5 final released
Interestingly enough, the first thing I did 7-ish years ago when I first touched a computer again (after 20-ish years in the desert - somewhat literally) was to see if the Sprint word-processor was still extant. Sadly, it was not - I have never quite gotten used to the cursor as a thin-vertical line which seems to be neither in one character space nor the next. I would imagine that's a legacy thing from the Macintosh (if I recall, they were the ones to push for variable-width text).
But there's a lot to be said for the "original" word-processors - no ribbons for one thing.
Mr. Martin may not be a very good writer (in the literary sense, he's better as an "ideas-man") - but he's quite right about DOS editors - once, and always, the best.

...though curiously the title-menu dropdowns do not:

Indeed, it would seem that the Borland C IDE (after it had been infested with that "++" nonsense) had pseudo-dropshadows as well (which I don't recall in the original):Tyrion Lannister (masquerading as Mr. Martin) wrote:A mind needs books as a sword needs a whetstone, if it is to keep its edge.

Re: xplorer2 v2.5 final released
Hello,
A short while ago, I started to install Xplo2 form what I did not know to be an X32 file. I received a message saying that I should go to zabkat.com etc.etc. to get the X64 version:
First problem - I can not copy the zabkat address from the message. Why on earth do you not allow this?
Second problem - nowhere can I find an assurance that v.2.5 supports X64 architecture;
Third problem - I have long been considering using Xplo2. Having reached the ultimate state of fed-upness with PowerDesk9, I decided to go ahead with Xplo2. Why do I have to pay for a version of Xplo2 which I do want in order to try a version which may or may not do what I want?
How can you help me to get out of this quagmire? :pissed
