I did a few tests with the UICC approach of "play with the XML, replace-the-resource, swear at Nikos, toss salt over your left-shoulder" zippity-do, and I was successful at "influencing the proceedings" in the same way as the drunken-uncle does when he leers at all the party-guests. But, really, the ribbon is (at its core) just a fancy toolbar which is "a seriously royal pain in the arse" to actually edit, and you can't do much more than put items in it that are already in the normal menus anyway - you'd never (as far as I can figure out) be able to add your own user-command speciality-items, or define extra tabs, or anything like that. (Well, extra tabs might be possible, but the way Nikos' has got it intertwined with the string resource texts is head-scratching to decipher.)

Editing the XML markup manually is - well - a minor adventure unto itself. But it is possible - I'm just not convinced there's any real value in providing a future-proof approach (Nikos would have to release the XML for every new update of x2, or add bloat by storing it uncompiled in the resources, which seems a waste since maybe 2 users in this part of the galaxy would ever actually have a use for it).

It would be nice to be able to reorder the icons in the ribbon quick access toolbar...

if you think the xml is overly complicated wait till you see how it works from the inside. Ridiculously complicated as you said for a glorified toolbar without customizability. I had to rewrite most of that rubbish WTL class to make it more down to earth

Is it possible to add user commands to a Quick Access toolbar one-by-one?

I kind of like the fact that I can minimize Ribbon now, but I still want to invoke some of my user commands quickly, like I can with the current toolbar.

BTW, I'd argue that user commands should NOT be in a "gallery". Currently it's a UX regression: instead of 1-click command on the current toolbar, it's 3 clicks with the Ribbon.
I'm using Xplorer2 - the only file manager that does not suck. Actually, it rocks!

I thought you actually liked your outdated WTL stuff, no? Or do you mean your man's particular ribbonificated class? Seems all very messy for a bit o'toolbar-porn.

wasker yes you can remove all buttons then add them one by one. SEe the demo video in help > how do I? menu

kilmatead this article/class was added to wtl posthumously so to speak (wtl is pretty much abandonware). If it was down to me I would send the ribbon class author to sparta for renormalization :)

Just a heads up on install/uninstall issue

The 64bit beta installed itself somewhere like "C:\Program Files\zabkat\xplorer2-ult" - i.e. alongside my existing install of pro in "C:\Program Files\zabkat\xplorer2".

After uninstalling the V3 beta I was shocked to find all my settings were gone. I had saved the settings, but a bit longer ago than I would have liked (over a month) :slap:

I'd taken a Restore Point immediately before the install so I was able to use it, so no harm done.

I've installed and uninstalled X2 several times before without this problem. IIRC the uninstall always asked if I wanted the settings removed, to which I've always replied no. I am pretty sure I got no such question this time. I'm disinclined to go through the reinstall/uninstall cycle again.

But this is the not first time I've had problems with X2 installs, which is why I took the Restore Point.

xplorer2 uninstaller asks you what to do with settings, if you replied "zook them" then that's what happens. It doesn't matter this is a beta, it shares the same settings with the "main" program

The keyboard shortcuts all seem to be working as intended now.

I'd still like to see all letter/letter combos for the keytips rather than letter/number combos, but you have greatly reduced the number of letter/number keytips. Also, there are a lot of lowercase keytips scattered about. For example, on the ribbon's titlebar (F, o V, W), the 'o' is lowercase. You may dismiss this as cosmetic, but it does provide visual dissonance when scanning the keytips, and less dissonance is preferable to more, yes?

The new mass renamer is awesome! :D
