I'm using Xplorer2 - the only file manager that does not suck. Actually, it rocks!

This behavior is definitely affected by Control Panel -> Ease of Access -> Ease of Access Center -> Make the keyboard easier to use. I don't know what is the delta between x2 v2.x and v3.x, but after enabling "Underline keyboard shortcuts and access keys", the problem with v3.x goes away. Why v2.x didn't have this problem to begin with? Any changes in manifest? Control styles? Something is different.

I can't think of any change I introduced other than the ribbon. Did you try to turn the ribbon off, then RESTART the program in menu mode (make sure you fully quit it first), then there won't be any effects from the ribbon -- if that's the culprit

Nope: with the Ribbon off and disabled shortcut underlining the focus rect is gone, unless I start x2 with keyboard. :|

Phew!

I'm still confused why you wouldn't see that on 8.1 - that's how I noticed it :)

In any case, fingers crossed!

I haven't got a clue why this happens
I compared some important code changes from 2.5 -> 3.0 without any conclusion
the only solution seems to be starting xplorer2 using the keyboard (press ENTER on the desktop shortcut icon)

Well, yeah, that's my observation as well.

I wonder if you could try something "before Ribbon" and "after Ribbon"? There must be some build that starts exhibiting this behavior... Otherwise both 2.x and 3.x would be affected.
