I'm having a problem with Thunderbird Mail crashing when I browse for files.
How do i turn off Replacement mode & restore Windows Explorer?

To disable explorer integration completely, use Tools -> Options -> Advanced (Tab) -> Undo Explorer Replacement (it's the large button at the bottom).

tools > options > advanced (tab) - Undo Explorer Replacement?
there may be some registry hacks as well.

Limited testing the crashing stopped but no way to tell if the Browse for file dialog is Windows or Xplorer.
I'll give it a few days of testing as the crash was intermittent.
Looking at Task manager after restarting the computer I still see xplorer running, see attached.

PS
I started xplorer & in Advanced options the Undo Explorer Replacement is dimmed out so I guess it is not taking control.

Use File > Exit to properly exit x2 - and test if need be.
When x2 stays resident after 'quitting' it usually means you're using Explorer Replacement Mode.

if you want to fully undo the explorer replacement mode uninstall/reinstall xplorer2
in your case xplorer2 runs automatically at startup as a leftover of the replacement process, but it isn't replacing your windows explorer anymore. To confirm, click on a folder and see which programs opens
