cloud files

Post by nikos »

I am trying to improve xplorer2 with cloud folders like onedrive and the like (dropbox, google drive etc)
as far as I can tell things work already, including browsing and searching (?) if you have the latest version 4.1

the complaint I hear from time to time is that xplorer2 forces cloud files to be "downloaded". This is naturaly if you have the preview or the details pane open, because xplorer2 is trying to get a preview that doesn't exist. I will probably add an option to disable automatic preview of cloud files, unless they are locally available

as I don't use cloud folders myself, I would like to hear from people that use cloud storage a lot. What improvements need to be made? Does it work in general terms? Any problems or suggestions please let me know!

This might be out of what you're planning, but since I don't really use consumer cloud storage, have you thought on tackling services as AWS or Azure?

that's not a bad idea either. I remember I once saw a firefox plugin for AWS. I never experimented with Azure. I did a quick check and there are no explorer extensions giving you access to AWS or Azure. I found these though
https://azure.microsoft.com/en-us/featu ... -explorer/
https://s3browser.com/

and here's one (paid) that turns cloud into a drive letter apparently, and should work with xplorer2 already

very crowded market!

I more versed with azure, but S3 is equivalent.

I don't specially like MS explorer for Azure, maybe just personal preference. I own CloudBerry Explorer por Azure and S3, they have more rounded product for AWS than for "MS block blobs".

It would be nice to browse this kind of cloud storage with x2, being able to show in columns properties such as Tier would be even better, and maybe some other things like browse versions...

x2 and DR search engine would certainly add value too.

Take a look here, in the end there less than 10 properties really useful (it's for .NET, but it's just to give an idea):

to be honest you seem to know more about this than me, so you have better chances building a working version, not me :)
