Deleting duplicate files fails

I have inherited 26GB of digital files from my late father.

After some sorting Out I am left with 20596 files in 1044 folders using 25,834,611,695 bytes of space

when I use > Tools > Check Duplicates
I get a scrap container which reports 20563 files using 25,832,156,833 of space
(good enough :-) )

using > Tools > check duplicates again I get the 'duplicates-detection' windos
I have selected ..... Name + Size + Select all duplicates
which reports 13769 duplicate files using 17,128,925,353 of space

I Then select > File > Delete (Crtl+Del)

A 'preparing to recycle' window pops up
Then I get a beep and an error message "the selection does not support this verb"

I can understand why the recycle bin might not kile 17GB being stuffed into it but ... I was not trying to 'recycle' but to Delete?

Any Help appreciated
regards
Mark

not sure what happens, for small selections it works fine (what about for you?)
try adding the TRASH button on the scrap toolbar and use it to bypass recycle bin (but be careful what you delete :))

Hi Nikos,

yes it does work on a smaller selection ...
so I conclude that the problem was indeed trying to stuff 17GB into the recycle bin.....

I had previously read your blog posts about
> Tools > check duplicates
and had noted your comment of the importance of using Ctrl+Del in the scrap window to delete files from source folder

However I had mistakenly confused that-selection with the Shift+Del selection when within the non-scrap windows ... I thought I had instructed the scrap window to bypass the recycle bin but Ctrl+Del does in fact attempt to delete-into-recycle bin.

Scrap-pane Trashing ... worked ... deleted 15gb of duplicated files :-)

Confusing...yes ... but got there with your help
Thanks

PS
I now have a nice color coded table of types-of-delete and the effects on Scrap Pane. Main Pane & Recycle bin
But I can't upload it as a spreadsheet or an image.
I spent 30 minutes trying to enter the table as text but the results were unsatisfactory.

It really would be useful If users could (once again) upload files to demonstrate problems they have or solutions found

sorry I don't know much about phpbb so I decided to close all possible back-doors like uploading files etc
