viewing in a folder with "thumbnail"

Post by Manyx »

sometimes (maybe 1 in 10), when I open a folder with images in thumbnails, I can't see all the images because some are "under" the preview panel, and there is the horizontal scroll.
I must click in the panel, click on "details" and click on "thumbnails" to have the correct viewing.

Is there something to do? Maybe in the properties of the folders?

can you show us what you mean with a picture? Why don't you use the scrollbar?

It is the horizontal scrollbar, not the vertical. I've found an example with many images, but it happens even when there are few images, with empty space under the pictures:

I click in the folder panel, click on details, click on thumbnail, here is the result:

This result is what I see 9 times in 10, and is what i expect to see each times.

the "problem" is that you have an over-sized column header, which extends the view horizontally. Either turn off the "header in all views" option (TOOLS > OPTIONS menu. Advanced property page), or resize the columns to make them smaller. The latter may affect the detailed view mode though

I don't find "header in all views".
"folder option", opens a Windows menu in french, but I can't find either.

I've changed the size of the "name" column, it's OK, but if I go in another folder then back to the first, the "name" column is still too big.
I change its size, save the folder setting, but when I'm back to this folder, the "name" column is still too big.

I don't know why this column is so big, there isn't long name in the folder.

Thank you, but I like to have the column to change the order.

My solution is: reduce the preview panel on the right. :)

... but it doesn't work every time.

I've uncheck "automatically resize Name column in detailed view", it works, but i think I miss the same option in thumbnail view.
If I resize the Name column, go to another folder and back to the first, I need to resize again.
If I resize the Name column, and save the folder setting, the size is not saved.

Xplorer² knows how to do it because if I click on "details" then on "thumbnail", it is OK without to do anything else :)

I've changed the name of all file, the longer has 13 lettres, but it don"t change.

each time I am in a folder with pictures with Thumbnails, I must click on a picture, click on "detail" and click on "Thumbnails" (because clicking on "details" first don't work).

I go on another folder, and back to the first, the problem is still here.

I think he wants to say that the window doesn't automatically resize so that no thumbnail goes under the preview panel

ok, now I understand. When you change to thumbnails FROM details, xplorer2 automatically resizes the name etc columns to avoid an over-wide thumbnail view. However, in order to protect your normal detailed view mode (the column widths), it treats the column resizing as temporary. Basically if you don't want this kind of side-effect, you can turn off the option "show column header in all views"

OK, but I need column header to organize by "name" or by "modified", and sometimes by extension. I'll try with keyboard shotcuts.
I just need to remember that "modified" is "date" and "extension" is "type"
