Wikipedia had migrated much of its contents to Wikidata a few years ago to have a unified (and queryable) database of everything non-prose, but it turns out that version information is missing: https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q3571044

Wikidata manages all kind of... well... data. For software, it includes version data. See - for example - the entry about the Total Commander: https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q80201
Scroll down to the Version Identifier.
Wikipedia articles can just embed this information in all language versions:
